APPEAL TO THE RESIDENTS OF SANDYCROFT AND QUEENSFERRY

We’re appealing for everyone’s help to protect the play area in Phoenix Street, Sandycroft. There has been ongoing damage to the play equipment as shown in the photographs attached. This is meant to be a safe, fun and welcoming space for children and young people and their families.

Repeated vandalism is putting that at risk.

It has been noted that someone has been repeatedly encouraging a large dog to bite and attack the seat on the zip wire. This has resulted in its removal as it is a risk to children using it and it is costing to keep replacing the seat. Children are being put at risk and denied a favourite play item due to someone’s thoughtlessness and dangerous actions. This cannot be allowed to continue.

There has also been a fatality in the Cheshire area where playground equipment was used to act out a risky stunt involving a roundabout and an e-bike/scooter. Damage to the roundabout in the play area indicates that this is happening at Phoenix Street.

We are therefore urging:

- Parents and guardians to explain the dangers of acting out risky stunts on play equipment which could cause serious injuries or worse.

- Parents and guardians to encourage respect for the play equipment and community spaces.

- Dog owners to keep pets under control and not enter the play area.

- Dog owners to keep pets away from the play equipment.

- Members of the public to report any incidences of damage or anti-social behaviour to the local Police Community Support Officer or a member of the Community Council.

Queensferry Community Council, in partnership with Flintshire County Council, has invested in the Phoenix Street play area for many years. Repairing equipment takes time and money, with some equipment having to be removed due to damage. This affects the children and young people who use it the most.

We are asking for help to identify the perpetrators. Any information received will be handled in confidence. Let’s all work together to look after this shared space and keep it safe and usable for everyone.

Thank you for your support.
