Last night the heavy rain led to sewage discharges in Whitby and Scarborough, as well as much of the Yorkshire Coast 💩

Today we find out that, to little surprise, Scarborough South Bay is likely to fail water pollution tests for the tenth year running.

Yorkshire Water will point to their planned investment to increase storage during heavy downpours but the reality is that it is all too little, too late. The public have been paying the price for failure for too long.

Keir Starmer became Labour leader by pledging radical action on public ownership, climate breakdown and social and economic justice, among other things. Once in office, he immediately began backsliding.

Now it looks like Andy Burnham is doing exactly the same thing... 🙄

Today is the full council meeting for Scarborough Town Council, and the agenda is very light. After agreeing not to proceed with the Toy Library last time, our councillors will now spend time discussing the proposals to house asylum seekers at a former RAF base in Linton on Ouse.

If the motion is voted through, council clerks will spend time writing letters to North Yorkshire Council, the Government and Alison Hume MP, requesting information that, in some cases, doesn't exist.

The proposed asylum centre is obviously a terrible idea, but do we really need our Scarborough town councillors to weigh in on this issue, which is out of our area and way out of their remit?
