Following the loss of an anchor from our ILB during a training exercise two weeks ago, our Lifeboat Operations Manager, Roger, has now returned the replacement anchor to our neighbouring station at Filey, which kindly lent us one. The anchor was handed back to their Lifeboat Operations Manager, Ian.

Saving Lives at Sea returns for its 11th series on Tuesday 18 August at 8pm. Once again, viewers will gain a unique insight into the realities of lifesaving around the coasts of the UK and Ireland, following our volunteer lifeboat crews and lifeguards as they respond to emergencies at sea.
In a first for the station, Scarborough Lifeboat will feature in the opening episode. Without giving too much away, the programme includes a rescue involving our volunteer crew and all-weather lifeboat. Be sure to tune in, you may spot some familiar faces.

Yesterday afternoon, Scarborough RNLI's all-weather lifeboat (ALB) was tasked to assist a pleasure craft suffering engine failure in Cornelian Bay. The vessel was safely towed back to Scarborough Harbour.
During the same period, Scarborough RNLI's inshore lifeboat (ILB) was tasked to reports of a missing 17-year-old swimmer in North Bay. Fortunately, the individual was located safe and well before the lifeboat was launched.
It was another busy afternoon for Scarborough's volunteer lifeboat crews.

On Tuesday evening, Scarborough RNLI's all-weather lifeboat (ALB) was launched to assist a 25ft yacht that had suffered engine failure off Flamborough Head.
The yacht was initially taken under tow by Flamborough RNLI's Atlantic 85 lifeboat, with Scarborough's ALB assuming the tow off Filey.
On arrival at Scarborough Harbour, the yacht was brought safely alongside by the ALB and handed over to HM Coastguard, with the inshore lifeboat (ILB) standing by to assist if required.
Both lifeboats then returned to station, where they were refuelled, washed down and made ready for service.
It was a busy evening for the station, and thanks go to the volunteer crew members who responded to the call.

On Friday afternoon, Scarborough’s ILB was launched to assist two girls reported to be in difficulty in the North Bay. Fortunately, they had reached the rock armour before the lifeboat arrived and were helped safely back to shore by Coastguard teams.

Yesterday, Scarborough’s all-weather lifeboat (ALB) was tasked at 06:57 to assist a fishing vessel with a fouled propeller. The vessel was taken under tow and brought safely into Scarborough Harbour. Following the launch, the ALB was washed down and returned to service at 12:00.

Swim Safe Returns to Scarborough Next Week

Swim Safe returns to Scarborough next week, with sessions running from the afternoon of 3 August through to 12 August, excluding the weekend.

The free sessions are open to children aged 7 to 14 who can already swim 25 metres unaided in deep water. The programme is designed to help young people learn how to stay safe in and around open water, giving them the knowledge and confidence they may need before an emergency situation arises.

Each participant will enjoy a fun and structured session led by qualified lifeguards and instructors, including:

Essential water safety advice
Up to 30 minutes of in-water tuition
Wetsuits, swim hats and swimming aids provided
Practical skills to help stay safe in open water
