As part of Big Ideas By The Sea, Big Day Out at the Castle, join us this Sunday (24th May) for a surface tour of Scarborough Castle's Royal Observer Corps monitoring post.

We will be discussing its construction, operations, closure, and recent archaeological dig to rediscover the 1960's time capsule - the image shows the bunker in 1967

Over four days in March 2026 archaeologists revealed the remains of Scarborough Castle's very own Royal Observer Corps Monitoring Post.

Constructed in 1963 in response to the tensions of the Cold War, the concrete bunker would house 3 personnel as they recorded data after potential nuclear explosions.
