🎲 Board Games Club – Starting Friday 12th June! 🎲

Join us each Friday for 4 weeks of board games, fun and friendly competition!

Come along during the first 3 weeks and you'll receive a raffle ticket each time you attend. On our final week, we'll draw a prize winner and have a fun board game quiz.

Whether you're a seasoned gamer or completely new to board games, everyone is welcome. 💙

Worried your child doesn’t enjoy reading as much as you’d like? You’re not alone 📖

Research shows children’s reading habits are changing. But the good news is that many young people still want to read, they’re just discovering stories in different ways.

Audiobooks, comics, gaming guides, magazines and graphic novels all count as reading, and they can be brilliant stepping stones towards building confidence and enjoyment.

Opportunities for 13- 24 year olds to help lead the Summer Reading Challenge 😊

We're looking for young people aged between 13 and 24 to help inspire young readers through the Summer Reading Challenge.

Volunteers are needed to work alongside library staff to help run and promote the challenge, which encourages children to read six library books over the summer holidays.

This year’s theme is Read to the Beat, inspiring children to explore the connection between stories and songs, and discovering how reading and music ignite creativity.

A Bee-rilliant Morning!

The Beekeepers and their event at More Than Books - Eastfield Library Community Hub was BEE-yond amazing, and kept everyone buzzing with excitement today! 😊

A huge thank you to beekeepers Dr Walker and Sallie for bringing the fascinating world of bees to life for us all. Visitors of all ages loved exploring the different bee specimens and learning about the amazing role bees play in our environment and their life-cycle.

We got some great advice too - "Grow pollinator flowers everyone wherever you can, in pots or boxes, on verges, or in your garden - the bees really, truly need the food. And if you can put off mowing a while this would greatly benefit their colonies. They need everyone's help." 🌻🌺

There was so much to discover; from trying on a real beekeeper suit and seeing an example of a beekeeper’s smoker, to exploring a hive and learning about the different stages of honey-making. And of course, the honey tasting was a real favourite! 🍯

Dr Walker and Sallie also brought along some wonderful crafts for everyone to enjoy. The children loved making beautiful bees using larch cones, yellow string, and shaping beeswax wings, as well as rolling their own beeswax candles to take home. The crafts looked absolutely lovely and were definitely Instagram-worthy! 📸✨ Take a look below ☺️

More Than Books - Eastfield Library Community Hub will be closed for the Bank Holiday Monday on the 25th May and re-open as usual on Tuesday 😊.

🐝 Did you know today is World Bee Day? 🥳

To honour these remarkable little powerhouses, here are a few mind-blowing reasons why bees are so great:

🌸 Ancient Royalty: They’ve been around for over 100 million years!

💨 Speedy Flyers: A honeybee can fly around 15 mph and beats its wings 200 times per second.

🌱 Loyal Workers: They practice "flower constancy"—meaning they stay loyal to one specific plant species per foraging trip!

Let's protect their habitats so they can keep doing what they do best. Happy buzzing, everyone! 🍯💛
