❄️ Help us identify grit bins that need filling

Have you spotted a grit bin within one of Scarborough Town Council’s five wards that is not normally filled by North Yorkshire Council?

As we head towards the colder months, we want to help ensure our community is prepared.

North Yorkshire Council generally fills its grit bins once in October/November and again in December/January, depending on the weather. If a bin has been filled at all during the past few years, it is therefore likely to be maintained by North Yorkshire Council.

You can check whether a grit bin is maintained by North Yorkshire Council by clicking through to report and then entering the street name or postcode:

💦YORKSHIRE WATER - WASTEWATER INVESTIGATIONS

📃At our full council meeting on 2nd April 2026, Councillor Maw proposed a motion highlighting concerns about bathing water quality in South Bay and North Bay. The motion called for Scarborough Town Council to advocate on behalf of residents and beach users by engaging with the Environment Agency and Yorkshire Water.

📌We have just received details regarding the next phase of investigations in support of Yorkshire Water's planned multi-million pound Scarborough wastewater project.

⛴️HMS Fearless (L10) was a Royal Navy amphibious assault ship that served from 1965 until decommissioned in 2002. 🌊Her first operational deployment was counter-terrorism operations in Arden, then providing emergency aid to Bangladesh. However, HMS Fearless will be better known for being an integral part of the British naval force during the 1982 Falklands War.
🔔The ships bell was presented to Scarborough Borough Council in 2002, and is on display in the Town Hall, along with some other related items, including a list of all the children born to the crew members while the ship was in service.
This practice continues today, preserving the ships heritage and legacy to its crew

SUNDAY 13 SEPTEMBER 2026 – SOUTH BAY BEACH, SCARBOROUGH 🏖️

🏰 400 SANDCASTLES IN TWO HOURS!

Scarborough’s South Bay is set to host a brand-new challenge as part of the town’s 400th anniversary celebrations.

The aim is simple – can people come together and build 400 sandcastles in just two hours? ⏱️🏖️

The challenge gets underway at 11am, with everyone welcome to head down, grab a bucket and spade and get involved.

🏆 Prizes will also be awarded for some of the best sandcastles created on the day.

The event is being delivered in partnership with The Scarborough Fair and Cllr Rich Maw and also forms part of Heritage Open Days.

📣The first Pride in Place Public Forum 📣
📌Friday 11 September at The Street, William Street, Scarborough 📌

🕠The event will run across three bookable sessions at 5.30pm, 6.15pm and 7.00pm, with each session following the same format.
💬Attendees will begin with a short presentation introducing Pride in Place, the role of the Neighbourhood Board, engagement to date and an overview of the projects and programmes currently moving into delivery.
💬Residents will then have the opportunity to speak directly with project leads, ask questions and find out more about individual projects and future opportunities to get involved.

🏠 Linton-on-Ouse Asylum Accommodation Proposal
Councillors will consider a motion supporting North Yorkshire Council’s objection to the proposed asylum accommodation at Linton-on-Ouse and requesting assurances about any potential impact on Scarborough, particularly in relation to housing pressures and accommodation.

📋 Minutes and Committee Reports
The meeting will also consider the minutes of previous Council meetings, receive reports from Council representatives on outside bodies, and note recent committee minutes.

🗣️ Public Session
There will be an opportunity for members of the public to make representations, ask questions and give evidence in relation to business on the agenda. The public participation period is normally limited to 15 minutes, with individuals limited to three minutes.

Christmas Lights 2026

We have some news about the Christmas Lights for Scarborough Town in 2026 following our extraordinary Council meeting yesterday.

Scarborough Town Council is pleased to be working with Acorn Lighting Services (of Selby) to test and install the infrastructure in the Town Centre so the Christmas lights can be hung safely and securely, and they will also install and remove the Christmas lights after the festive season.

🎄✨ Christmas Lights for Scarborough! ✨🎄

Exciting plans are being considered to bring some festive sparkle to Scarborough this Christmas! Councillors will meet on Thursday 13 August at 7.00pm to discuss the Christmas lights infrastructure and the purchase of new lights and related items.

The proposal includes work to install the infrastructure needed for the scheme, along with lights and associated fittings or displays.
