Tonight we are lighting up the Mount in red to raise awareness for the West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team to mark Mountain Rescue Awareness Day.

The West Cornwall Search and Rescue volunteers give their time and skills to help people in need across Cornwall. As the team says: “The support of our local community helps us continue to be there when people need us most.”

We are shining a light on the vital work of mountain rescue teams and the volunteers who make it possible.

A few pics from a joint technical rescue training session back in September, working alongside East Cornwall Search & Rescue Team.

A great opportunity to train together, share knowledge, build skills and strengthen teamwork across both teams. Sessions like these are invaluable for developing our capabilities and ensuring we’re ready to work together when it matters most.

World Mental Health Day 💚

At West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team, we know how important it is to look after others, but it is just as important to look after ourselves.

Our volunteers are always ready to help those in need, but everyone needs time to pause, recharge and talk when things feel difficult.

Today, we encourage everyone to check in on themselves and those around them. Remember, it is okay not to be okay, and asking for help is a sign of strength.

Look after yourself as well as you look after others.

📟 CALL-OUT: 27/09/26 – Poldice Valley

Earlier this week, we responded to a mountain biker who had come off while riding off-road in the Poldice Valley, sustaining a lower-leg injury. We were tasked by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust through Devon & Cornwall Police.

Fortunately, a paramedic was already on scene, and by coincidence the team were training nearby, meaning our off-road response vehicle was able to get there quickly. Further team members were alerted and made their way to the incident.

The team packaged the casualty and carried him uphill over rough ground to the waiting ambulance, where he was handed over for further treatment.

The initial call came in at 16.00, and the incident was completed by 18.15.

We’d like to wish the casualty a speedy recovery.

📟 CALL-OUT: 22/09/26 – Falmouth

We were contacted by Devon & Cornwall Police to support the evacuation of homes and other premises following the discovery of an unexploded bomb in the port of Falmouth.

We were proud to be part of a large, multi-agency response, working alongside emergency services, council teams and fellow charities to support the operation and the local community.

A huge thank you to the people of Falmouth for their understanding, patience and cooperation throughout the evacuation. And a big well done to all the coordinating partners and everyone involved in keeping the community safe.

Finally, thank you to Rapid Relief Team UK for providing much-needed food and refreshments to those working throughout the operation. Your support was greatly appreciated.

A couple of recent call-outs to update you on…

📟 CALL-OUT: 25/06/26 – Looe

We were contacted by Devon & Cornwall Police to assist in a search for a high-risk missing person in the Looe area. East Cornwall Search & Rescue Team had already been searching through the night. Working alongside teams from Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team - Plymouth and Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team - Tavistock the missing person was located safe and well.

📟 CALL-OUT: 01/07/26 – Cusgarne

We were contacted by Devon & Cornwall Police to assist in the search for a high-risk missing person with dementia. Thirteen volunteer call-out members deployed to search probable areas, working alongside a team from Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England.

Thankfully, following a public appeal by Devon & Cornwall Police, the missing person was located by a member of the public and safely reunited with their family by police officers.

These incidents highlight the value of partnership working between the emergency services, volunteer search and rescue teams, specialist search dog teams and the public to help bring vulnerable people home safely.
