As your Councillors for Crosby & Park we tend to focus local issues we can help with in our community.

However, we want to make an exception to congratulate John Healey MP on his appointment as Chancellor.

John is a friend of our area, understands the steel industry well, and has regularly visited Scunthorpe.

He will be an excellent choice, and we are pleased to see that he was made a positive start by removing VAT from residents’ electricity bills.

Some great collaborative work between our Labour colleagues in Brumby Ward and Nic Dakin MP.

Following the departure of travellers from Manor Park I was pleased to meet with Cllr Len Foster and Cllr Dan Hart to thank them for their years of work campaigning for a long-term solution.

As they said, we need to move beyond short-term fixes. Proper provision, in an appropriate place, protects residents, safeguards public spaces, and ensures everyone is treated fairly and lawfully.

Moving people on isn’t a solution. Until the Council provides proper, authorised sites, these incidents will keep happening, and taxpayers will keep footing the bill for clean-up and repairs.

When Labour was last in control of North Lincolnshire Council there was an appropriate provision for travellers which the Tories scrapped almost immediately when they took over in 2011. Incidents like what we’ve seen in Manor Park can be avoided but the Tories aren’t interested in finding a solution.

Cllr Yates and Cllr Ahmed were out with their Town Ward colleagues, Nic Dakin MP, the Police and Neighbourhood teams, NLC, the amazing Scunthorpe Litter Pickers and many members of our community today. It was a great success! Thank you to eveyone who joined in ❤️

Your Scunthorpe Councillors out and about in Town Ward today with Nic Dakin MP, listening to your concerns and worries on the doorstep. It was great to meet so many of the Town community!

A positive meeting today with the Crosby & Town Stakeholders Working Group, discussing fly-tipping, antisocial behaviour, and other local issues. We agreed to move forward together and finished the day with a visit to the DHL factory. Thank you to everyone involved.
