Golden Stars recognises the people and teams who go above and beyond for patients, colleagues and communities. Meet another of the remarkable individuals celebrated at this year’s awards. Congratulations to the REACH Team, winners of the Championing Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Award.

The team has transformed support for colleagues requiring workplace adjustments, significantly reducing waiting times and helping create a more equitable, inclusive and accessible workplace for all.

With the bank holiday weekend coming up, it’s a really good time to check that you have a well-stocked first aid kit at home or in your car.

Things like plasters, antiseptic cream and painkillers can help you deal with minor accidents and injuries.

Patients living with dementia are benefiting from new facilities on Ward 5 at Scunthorpe General Hospital, following refurbishment work funded through a generous legacy donation.

Delivered through collaboration between the Trust’s Capital Projects Team, our charity – The Health Tree Foundation – and Vulnerabilities Team, the project has transformed a bay and side room to create a more welcoming environment for patients living with dementia. A second bay is also planned for refurbishment in the coming months.

Antibiotics do not work for problems such as colds and flu, which are caused by viruses.
Using antibiotics when they're not needed encourages harmful bacteria that live inside you to become resistant – also known as antimicrobial resistance.

That means that antibiotics may not work when you really need them. Three steps we can all take to help prevent Antimicrobial Resistance:

• Protect yourself from infections, e.g. by getting vaccinated when eligible
• Only take antibiotics and other antimicrobials when prescribed
• Never share or use leftover antibiotics.

All our Emergency Departments across Hull, Grimsby and Scunthorpe are extremely busy – and our clinical teams are telling us that a lot of the patients arriving could be seen far more quickly elsewhere.
We’re always here for you if you need us – and if it’s an emergency, please don’t hesitate to come.
However, if it's not, there are some options we'd really appreciate you tried first:
• You could visit your nearest dedicated urgent treatment centre. There are centres in Goole, Bransholme, Louth, Beverley, at Hull Royal Infirmary and in Bridlington.
• If you're in North East Lincolnshire, and you can't speak to your GP but want to get urgent medical advice, you can call the Single Point of Access (SPA) line. Here you can speak to a team of expert clinicians who can give you advice and support over the phone. You can reach SPA 24/7 by calling 01472 256256
• No matter where you are, you can call 111 for help and advice
• Alternatively, you could call your GP or speak to your local pharmacist.
If you do come to A&E and your condition is not urgent, we’re sorry but please prepare for lengthy waits, as we prioritise those with serious injury and life threatening illness.

Young people interested in careers in healthcare have been given a valuable insight into the world of nursing, thanks to a successful two-day Summer School.

The event welcomed Year 10 and Year 12 students who took part in a range of practical activities designed to showcase the skills, opportunities and rewards of a career in nursing. Students gained hands-on experience in bandaging, wound care, emergency assessments and clinical simulation using manikins, helping to bring healthcare careers to life.
