If you're worried about Halifax branch closing in the New Year please sign the petition demanding a banking hub in Seaford

Seaford is about to lose its last remaining full-service high street bank when the Halifax branch closes its doors on 19 January 2026. This will leave our town without any full-service bank, putting local businesses, older residents, and those without digital access at a serious disadvantage.

We desperately need to get the Bishopstone junction done. I know there are a lot of opinions on what that should look like - unlocking the MRN funding would enable at least a safe crossing and speed reduction. This is the number one issue we hear in the ward - thanks to James for keeping on the fight

Sussex has been named among the worst places in England and Wales for road traffic collisions involving cars, according to new figures.

Really pleased to see that the post box at Bishopstone Road/Marine Drive junction is back. Thanks to residents for reporting it to us and to Royal Mail for listening to the reasons why it needed to be replaced.

EXCEAT BRIDGE UPDATE from Cllr Lambert
I have just received the following update from Highways and wanted to let you know as soon as possible given some of the dates below:

“We wanted to provide you with a bit more detail of the ongoing pre-construction activities. Please note that this is not the start of construction of the new bridge (we have yet to appoint a contractor) but we are simply clearing vegetation in preparation, off the road and ahead of the bird nesting season. Below are the key planned activities along with their provisional dates. While these fall within the current schedule, please be aware that dates may move due to factors such as adverse weather conditions.

- Welfare units are now in place at the Boat House to provide provision for the contractors carrying out the pre-construction works
- Ground investigation surveys will be undertaken from 13th Oct to 5th Nov; this will include digging of bore holes off the highway
- Vegetation clearance 6th Oct for a week
- As previously confirmed, the temporary lights will remain in their current positions either side of the bridge and additionally there will be marshals on site to assist with pedestrian access and safe access to and from the Cuckmere Inn.

On Mon 13th Oct borehole rigs (large, heavy equipment) will be brought to site and this will mean minor delays but this will be carried out outside peak hours to minimise disruption. We have asked that this is done early morning if possible, before the busy bus routes start”.

I asked about the public enquiry and was told:

“We were expecting a response by 2nd October but were informed by the DFT this week that they would miss this deadline but hope to let us know next week. We will keep you posted”.

Can we please ask that people complete the survey especially since at Thursday night's BHHC Scrutiny meeting the leader of Brighton and Hove council was dismissive about the petition shared previously. She wants evidence submitted by survey. IF this takeover goes ahead Seaford will be affected as well in practical ways which many will not welcome Just one example is since LDC has far more advanced and successful waste and recycling system than the city it would be a retrogressive step. Also the management of It all is at Robinson road in Newhaven where heavy investment in the buildings and plant is ongoing. The effect on the areas which BHHC want to include are numerous and some have not been thought through at all .Please encourage everyone to take part.

A few more examples for those asking

If Newhaven goes to Brighton there will be a need to reconfigure current county divisions on which the first unitary elections are legally based at present.
Going to be expensive to redraw and set up new divisions and not sure where Bishopstone to Princess Drive will end up? With Downs villages and Ringmer ? which is growing due to house building, Numbers will be off if attempt to include with Seaford North for instance

Many of us rely on Newhaven supermarkets and other commercial outlets where there is free parking , some use the vet and other services. We use it for sports and Leisure plus the growing Arts scene and some travel to work/ school etc.

LDC has invested in many organisations and facilities we all use via the grants applied for and from CIL funding , Seaford Residents thus have an investment there as well .

Waste and recycling being based in Newhaven is a big advantage for us ( not withstanding the millions in investment which has been made in plant and improvement to Robinson rd site)
If Newhaven depot no longer available where will new unitary be managing our local waste from and how will it be funded? Having this local means rapid response to fly tips and non collections for instance, it's also an in house service so has not been affected by strikes in recent years unlike Brighton

Seahaven has a tradional connection joined by Tidemills along the previous site of Ouse.
These connections sustain our communities and bring us together.https://www.lewes-eastbourne.gov.uk/LGR?fbclid=IwQ0xDSwL8MHJjbGNrAvwwamV4dG4DYWVtAjExAAEewn9Bl12cg3gmN8oOkYbLL8Ms1WWM2-mA3ccgJTMBusP17nf4p-BW6g9YXWk_aem_5PSYsoMlExgd8qts1TQD8Q

Have your say on Brighton & Hove City Council's proposal to expand the city boundaries into Kingston ward, East Saltdean, Telscombe, Peacehaven and Newhaven. The consultation will stay open until 5pm on Monday 25 August 2025.
