Following the devastating fire at Le Constellation bar in Switzerland on New Year’s Eve, we are urging nightclub owners, staff, and customers across Durham and Darlington to remain vigilant.

Whilst the cause of the fire is still under investigation, it is believed that indoor sparklers and combustible materials may have started the fire.

To venue owners and managers:

🚒 Never use indoor sparklers as they reach extreme temperatures and can ignite flammable décor or ceilings in seconds.
🚒All fire exits and escape routes must be kept clear of obstructions at all times.
🚒Check your décor. Ensure that wall and ceiling linings are made of fire-retardant materials. Avoid using highly flammable drapes or plastic greenery.
🚒Ensure your fire risk assessment is up to date and that all staff are trained in emergency evacuation procedures.

To our community:

🚒When you go out, take a moment to identify your nearest exits.
🚒 If you see exits blocked or dangerous use of pyrotechnics, report it to the venue management immediately.
🚒Fire safety concerns should be reported through our website.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies of are with the families, friends, and the entire community of Crans-Montana.

Smoke alarms save lives, so the best gift you can give yourself this Christmas is peace of mind that you are covered. 🎄

To test the alarm, press and hold the test button until you hear it sound.

If the alarm doesn't go off, you may need to replace the battery.

We recommend that you have smoke alarms on every floor of your home and in the most used rooms.

It is frustrating that we have to post this as a recurring theme, but here goes….

We appreciate that when we attend incidents there is interest from the public, and a want to share images or footage across social media.

Plus people want to know what has happened; we get that.

However, please - before you do this - kindly think of those involved in the incident, directly or indirectly. Be they family, friends, colleagues & the emergency services who attend.

Those images and footage that are shared often go viral in seconds, and may well reach the families of those adversely affected before we, or anyone else, has established what has occurred, or who was even involved.

We have witnessed this time and again, with increasing regularity, from personal profiles and professional pages.

Please, take a moment before posting & ask, if this was you affected - is Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok or any other online platform really how you’d want to find out….?

I’m willing to bet it’s not.

Because when we’re sat face to face with the families of those affected, their anguish & pain is only intensified by this.

It has to stop.
