Fingers double crossed! It’s been great to be involved in further promoting the town in this venture.

The potential benefits and investment are huge if we were successful.

As recently announced in the Community Council Selkirk News newsletter, Selkirk has entered the UK Government’s competition to be ‘UK Town of Culture 2028’, with a first prize of £3m. The short list is to be announced soon, but TODAY the Department of Culture Media & Sport has launched an interactive map, featured specially created postcards from participating towns.

Selkirk’s uses a dedicated shot created by Rob Gray, and emphasises that Selkirk has been at the forefront of so many things and events that it is ‘The Nation’s Story in One Square Mile’. The postcard shows the 12thCentury Selkirk Castle site; The Haining Palladian villa; the Auld Kirkyard, where William Wallace was declared Guardian of Scotland; Sir Walter Scott’s Courtroom; Halliwell’s preserved house and museum; the Law courts and Library in Scottish Baronial architectural style; Scotland’s best tweed & tartan mills; the site of Scotland’s first Tironensian Abbey; visionary designer Bernat Klein’s studio; and the hills and rivers that inspired legendary poets, writers, painters and musicians, the boundaries still marked today by the historic Common Riding. From history to the High School, leading the way in e-sports, Selkirk has been there first.

Have Your Say on the Future of the A7 Through Selkirk.

Local residents are invited to attend a Public Exhibition Drop-In to view and discuss proposed pedestrian improvements along the A7 corridor through Selkirk town centre.

The proposals have been shaped by feedback from people who use the A7 as pedestrians, and this exhibition is an opportunity to learn more about the planned improvements, ask questions, and share your views.
