Important information for food businesses! We were recently made aware of an individual making contact with a food business in our district on various occasions, claiming to be an Environmental Health Officer and asking for payment to carry out a food hygiene inspection. We want to reassure you that Chichester District Council does not work with third party companies to carry out inspections or revisits, and we do not share information with these companies.

Our officers always carry CDC identification and we will never charge you for a routine food hygiene inspection. The only exception is where we charge for a Food Hygiene Rating Revisit but this can ONLY be paid for by going to our website. We never take any form of payment at an inspection. Generally speaking, our inspections are always unannounced, unless you are a domestic premises (where we must give 48 hours’ notice) or you operate ad hoc hours where we may contact you to make an appointment.

If you ever have any concerns about the authenticity of the officer that has turned up, then please contact us on 01243 534602 so we can verify this for you.
