📺 Development & Infrastructure Advisory Committee update.

The Local Plan will shape how our district grows — from new homes to the infrastructure that supports them. The recent Development & Infrastructure Advisory Committee meeting is well worth a watch if you want to understand what’s at stake.

WKI member Cllr Angela Baker, along with other local councillors, asked important questions of the officers about housing allocations, infrastructure, and affordable homes.

With the Regulation 18 consultation opening on the 23rd October for 7 weeks , this is your chance to learn more and be ready to have your say. Every voice matters — and your input can help make sure development is fair, balanced, and supported by the right services.

Busy schedules meant our WKI group met virtually this week, but it was still a great opportunity to connect, share ideas, and plan ahead.

As a newly formed group we will have lots to share with you over the next few weeks!

One question we have been asked a lot is what difference do we think being independent is going to make to our role and more importantly to the communities we represent?❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓

We believe as independent councillors we will now be able prioritise local concerns and actions, ensuring all residents have the best community-focused representation .

We want to do the absolute best for the residents who voted for us and firmly believe forming this new group has given us this ability.

As independent councillors we are free to vote and lobby for what we believe is right, without having to be concerned with a party Whip or political affiliation.

Having had a chance to speak to many of our residents over the past week, you are telling us that Local Government SHOULD be more about the people than the politics, so we seem to have struck a chord with many of you.
And we can’t thank you enough for the positivity and support that you have been sending to us all at WKI. 🙏🏼

Today the newly formed West Kent Independent (WKI) group published its first official press release.

We are very grateful for the support shown so far from many of our residents and communities since embarking on this new journey as independent councillors in our newly formed group.

Some things won’t change, we intend to continue to work hard for all our residents - always putting our communities first.

We have members from many wards across the District, including Dunton Green, Riverhead, Weald, Seal, Knockholt, Underriver , Westerham , Kemsing, Halstead and Edenbridge.

Following concerns regards safety in Chipstead Lane from 8th May Kent County Council will be launching a 6 month trial of access only from Bullfinch lane through both Chipstead Lane and Barnfield Road to Worships hill. During this time they will assess the effects on traffic and safety and consult with residents. Full details will follow from KCC in the coming weeks.
