One of the best parts of being an on-call firefighter is being there for our own community when people need us most. ๐Ÿš’

We were called to a couple who were worried their camper van was on fire. Understandably stressful for them, but thankfully it turned out to be oil burning on the manifold rather than a serious fire. We made everything safe and got them reassured.

Today they came by with a thank you card and some treats for the crew - such a thoughtful gesture and hugely appreciated. It really does mean a lot.

Our teams are Proud to serve the community we live and work in. โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ’“ BroadLea School - Thank you Cards - for Restart a Heart Day๐Ÿ’“

Shanklin Fire Station recently had the privilege of teaming up with the Isle of Wight Ambulance and 111 Service to help create the next generation of lifesavers! ๐Ÿš‘

Staff and volunteers teamed up with fire stations across the Island to teach over 900 students from more than 25 schools how to perform CPR and use a defibrillator.

Eight in ten cardiac arrests happen at home โ€” starting CPR while waiting for an ambulance can double someoneโ€™s chance of survival. Every second counts โค๏ธ

A huge thank you to the children of Broadlea School For their kind personally made cards

๐Ÿ’ช Together, weโ€™re giving our community the confidence and the skills to save a life and ensure the best care for all.

The UK government is testing the Emergency Alerts system on Sunday 7 September 2025 at 3pm. Compatible mobile phones and tablets will receive an alert, make a loud siren-like sound and vibrate. You will not need to take any action.

The Emergency Alerts system is used to warn if thereโ€™s a danger to life nearby, including extreme weather. Regular testing ensures the system is functioning correctly, should it need to be used in a life-threatening emergency.

Find out more at gov.uk/alerts.

An Amazing and talented young lady, thank you from the Shanklin Fire Station team

This artwork is a tribute to Shanklin Fire Station, who as first responders have repeatedly assisted me during my seizures. Youโ€™ll notice a few hidden elements that really mean a lot to me. The number โ€œ18โ€ on one of the helmets represents one of the first times they came out to me when I was airlifted to Southampton hospital. Youโ€™ll also see the Shanklin fire logo, their engines, and their crew.

The piece is dominated by rich, fiery tones against a stark black background, focusing on a gleaming yellow firefighterโ€™s helmet. Its reflective visor captures the vivid image of their bright red fire engines ready for action.

Above the helmet, a golden angelic firefighter figure stands with wings made of fire, symbolising both sacrifice and protection. To the right, a line of neatly placed yellow helmets rests on a surface draped in a Union Jack flag, evoking honour and remembrance for my heroes.

As the composition moves downward, it becomes more intense. A picture I found from Shanklin fire station in full gear are seen coordinating with urgency, pointing and communicating amid the chaos of an emergency scene. At the heart of the lower section, a heroic firefighter is depicted rescuing a young child, carrying them away from an unseen inferno, his face a mask of focus and determination.

Further below, another firefighter, exhausted and battered, sits on a set of stone steps surrounded by flames, his head bowed and gloves clutched in his hands. This figure embodies the emotional and physical toll the profession demands. Lying near him is his helmet, a silent testament to the battles fought.

Throughout the artwork, the interplay of fire, light, and shadow adds drama and depth, while every detailโ€”from the reflections in the visor to the weary slouch of the firefighterโ€”speaks to resilience, sacrifice, and brotherhood.

Thankyou for being my heroes. ๐Ÿš’
