The response to our Christmas Carol Concert on Tuesday 1 December has been amazing.

It does mean, however, that we have reached our capacity and there are no longer tickets available.

If you have booked and find out later that you can no longer make it, please return your tickets on Eventbrite.

This will mean other people can book your returned tickets and attend the event.

Thank you.

It was great to drop into St Peter's Primary School, Wem, on such a beautiful sunny day this week. The children were really engaging and asked lots questions. Our No.1 Flying Training School aircrew knew the answers to most of them 🤩 !

Nine volunteers from RAF Shawbury’s Air Traffic Control and Air Operations sections joined village volunteers last Saturday to help transform the grounds of St Mary’s Church.

As well as heavy digging to prepare the ground for important structural work to the boundary wall, the team took on hedge trimming and tree removal.

Church Warden Bill thanked everyone involved for their hard work and support, noting the significant improvements achieved in just a single day. Equally, working together gave our Service personnel and Shawbury community members the chance to chat together, share experiences and strengthen existing relationships.

Today is World Mental Health Awareness Day. You may recall Flight Lieutenant Nick’s winning entry in the RAF Photographic Competition 2026 (Amateur Category), which we posted on 9 September.

Here are some more of Fight Lieutenant Nick’s outstanding pictures and his thoughts on his motivation for taking them.

“I recently got into photography following an 18-month medical downgrade with Mental Health struggles. I picked up a camera, firstly to distract myself, since then it has become an extremely effective "headspace" tool. Secondly, I aim to capture the people I work with that amaze me every day. Those that seem to deal with the immense pressure and dangers of rotary flying training with ease. There are many impressive photos of our aircraft, but I feel the story of the people that fly and maintain them is rarely shown in an emotional context. And that is my aim in taking photos; to capture the human context of our capabilities.”.

Thank you to Nick for sharing your thoughts and photographs.

Fifteen RAF Shawbury personnel have just completed six of Europe’s iconic Via Ferrata routes in just seven days.

Adventurous Training in the military aims to put personnel into stretch, developing courage, leadership, teamwork and resilience. The towering limestone peaks and dramatic ridgelines of the Italian Dolomites provided the perfect challenging mountain landscape to fulfil all of these aims, whilst leaving the team with lasting memories.
