Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who supported me during this election; it meant a huge amount.
Secondly, I am sorry that the news isn't better.
Not unexpectedly, Reform have taken many seats across Kent; the Ramsgate seats are two of them.
I spoke a few weeks back about the reality of what faces KCC and anyone elected to it, and the fact that choosing to take this on shouldn't be done lightly. KCC is shouldering huge amounts of debt as it moves into a unitary system that is as yet undecided; and the amount of work that it will take for Councillors to have any impact on shaping future systems and current services is huge. As such it is disappointing to have already had one new Councillor make it clear that they won't have time for this role.
This was never about national issues; it was about improving and reinforcing the many invisible systems that support our community locally; to do that well requires a huge amount of work, and I suggest that for the next two years you ensure that those who have put themselves forward for roles fulfil them to the extent deserved by the community.
I have had a brilliant time meeting, speaking with and supporting residents over this election period, and am grateful for all kindness and support received.
J and I send our very best wishes to you, on a beautifully sunny day in Ramsgate; I will still be here, still supporting with Housing and any Thanet related issues; it's just unfortunate that I won't be able to make the difference I wanted to for Education and SEN provision, and I am sorry that I was unable to manage that for you.
All love, and thank you again.
Helen.
