On May 16, our volunteer Launch Authority and Water Safety Officer Clare visited Queenborough Yacht Club to deliver an important water safety talk ⛵️

The session covered key advice for staying safe when heading afloat, including the importance of:

⚓ Always wearing a lifejacket or buoyancy aid

⚓ Checking weather and tide conditions before setting off

⚓ Carrying a means of calling for help

⚓ Letting somebody know your plans before going out on the water

A huge thank you to Queenborough Yacht Club for the warm welcome, and to Clare for giving up her time to help share these potentially lifesaving messages 🛟

Last month, our fantastic fundraiser volunteer Trev and his mini fleet of model RNLI lifeboats headed off on an adventure to the Abbey Hill Steam Rally in Somerset 🚂

The models certainly turned heads over the weekend and, thanks to the generosity of visitors, an amazing £166 was raised for Sheerness RNLI 💙

That total included £126 donated in the collecting bucket and £40 from a friend who challenged Trev that he “wouldn’t hold a snake”…
Little did they know that Trev is quite used to them 🤣🐍

A huge thank you to everybody who stopped for a chat and supported the crew, and also to Garwynn’s Reptile And Bug Handling for letting Trev handle this very cute python!

Every pound raised helps us continue saving lives at sea 🛟

This weekend, some of our dedicated volunteers took on a 5k challenge in full RNLI kit as part of the RNLI Mayday Mile fundraiser – and together they are on course to raise an incredible £2,000 for the RNLI 🏃👏

A huge well done to crew members Neil, Kai and Roo, and fundraising volunteer Trev, who completed the challenge at The Leas parkrun in Minster.

Parkrun director Helen Campbell said the event saw a record turnout, with members of Sittingbourne Striders and the wider running community turning out to support the RNLI crew. Steve Ladner and Dame Tracey Crouch were also among those taking part to show their support for Trev and the team.

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far and to those who came along to cheer the runners on. The support shown throughout the day was incredible and means a great deal to our volunteer crew.

A special thank you to Helen Campbell and the team at The Leas parkrun, Paul Gibbs the photographer (for some fantastic photos that we’ll also be sharing on our page soon) volunteer crew Rachel Collier, Kim Braysher, Ricardo Araujo and Jack Smedley for their encouragement, and Teresa Harris Boag for helping keep the team fuelled and looked after all weekend.

An amazing effort for a fantastic cause. Well done everyone! 💙

A chance social media post sparked an incredible 500-mile round trip for lifelong RNLI supporter Karl Williams, who travelled from Greater Manchester to Queenborough to see a lifeboat carrying his family member’s names.

Karl, 52, made the journey after spotting that the relief all-weather lifeboat Eric’s Legend was currently at Sheerness lifeboat station.

A remarkable story of family, legacy and the lasting impact of supporting the RNLI 🧡🚤

A father-of-two has thanked Sheerness RNLI volunteers after he and a friend were left stranded in the River Medway when their overloaded tender capsized near Upnor Reach.

The pair spent around 30 minutes in the cold water before managing to get back onto their yacht, where our volunteer crew later transferred them safely to shore.

Tim Luxton described the arrival of the relief all-weather lifeboat Eric’s Legend as “a blessing” and praised the crew for their kindness and care during what he called a “surreal experience”.

The incident is also an important reminder that even experienced sailors can quickly get into difficulty on the water. Thankfully both men were wearing lifejackets and were able to call for help.

Our station’s all-weather lifeboat, Judith Copping Joyce, made the long journey back home to Sheerness following a period of maintenance in Poole ⚓

The Shannon-class lifeboat is now back on station and ready to continue serving the Medway and Thames Estuary.

While Judith Copping Joyce was away, relief and legacy lifeboat Eric’s Legend temporarily took over operational duties at the station, something some keen-eyed supporters may have spotted over recent weeks 🛟

A huge thank you goes to everybody involved in keeping our lifeboats operational and rescue-ready, ensuring our volunteer crews can continue saving lives at sea whenever the call comes 💙
