Prompted by the photos taken last week I thought it would be good to get one with our Green Flag for the page header - taken this morning before the group headed off to 'fettle' 5 woodland glades which needed a bit of tidying up.

This might be a bit of a challenge but you never know what you may encounter hopping around in the valley!!

Volunteers scythed today, near the car park and removed the grass to improve the area for flowers and wildlife. We also sowed some wildflower seeds. Other volunteers cut back the overhanging trees on that path, so now you get a lovely view of the container mural as soon as you exit the car park. We also tidied up the Shire Brook Valley stone near the entrance. See if you can notice the work we've done next time you are there.

On Wednesday, I went round part of the valley with Professors Ian Rotherham and Peter Bridgewater. Ian was one of the original team back in the 1980s at the start of its transformation and has been keeping an eye on it ever since although not visited it recently. Peter, who now lives and works in Australia, in contrast had never visited before. It was interesting to hear their positive comments and insights. We came across the young heron in the drying out pond on Stone Lane and Ian took this short video which we thought we would share.
