There will be no bin collection Monday 31 August due to the upcoming Bank Holiday.

Collections will resume on Tuesday.

North:
Tuesday 1st to Saturday 5th September: Black Bin and Food Caddy collections. Collections one day later due to Bank Holiday.

South:
Tuesday 1st to Saturday 5th September: Burgundy, Green Bin and Food Caddy collections. Collections one day later due to Bank Holiday.

Following earlier reports of the footpath being blocked by barrier fencing at the top of the sports field at the rear of Killamarsh Active, we can now confirm that this has been addressed and the footpath has been opened back up.

We have requested that the contractors working for NEDDC ensure the footpath remains open, however the main field entrance may be barriered from the edge of the path overnight. We are advised that the barrier fencing was put in place to limit access to the raised edge trackway that has been put in place to protect the sports field while works continue to replace the football pitches.

Whitestone Solar Farm Project Update

The Whitestone Solar Farm Project is a proposed new solar farm with associated battery storage and infrastructure that is intended to meet the country's need for low-carbon, homegrown energy. The development will cover a vast amount of land area crossing from Doncaster, through parts of Rotherham and into North East Derbyshire, and is considered one of the largest developments of this type in the UK covering approximately 1,510 hectares. The development is expected to come to the border of North East Derbyshire at High Moor, Killamarsh.

The Whitestone Solar Farm team will be at locations across the area on Friday 21 August to help residents register to take part in the upcoming examination process. The nearest venues to Killamarsh for sign up will be at Kiveton Park and Wales Village Hall from 3pm-4.30pm and at Harthill Village Hall from 5pm-6.30pm. Residents will also be able to register with the Planning Inspectorate directly.

We’ve got some photos to share of the equipment at the newly opened High Moor Playground!

You may notice the grass is looking a little worse for wear at the moment. The long spell of hot, dry weather has certainly taken its toll on many green spaces, but hopefully with some rain and a bit of time, we’ll soon see it looking greener and healthier again! 🌱

We’ve also had a few questions about why High Moor was chosen for the new playground location. The Parish Council can only carry out developments on Parish Council owned land. The other parks/playgrounds owned by the Parish Council are at Norwood, Belklane and Birchlands. Other parks and playgrounds are owned by North East Derbyshire District Council. This project has been made possible thanks to grant funding from FCC Communities Foundation.

It's great to see local children and families enjoying it already!

Keep an eye out for park updates and the arrangement of an official opening ceremony to celebrate both the completion of the playground and the park's new name 'King Charles III Community Park'. Further details will be announced in due course.

It's National Allotments Week this week! The Parish Council owns two allotment sites in Killamarsh. Both sites are fully tenanted at the moment, but contact the Parish Office if you would like to go on the waiting list for an allotment in the future.

New playground opens in Killamarsh ready for Summer Holidays

Families in Killamarsh have something new to celebrate this summer, as the brand-new playground at High Moor has now been completed and is ready for local children to enjoy throughout the rest of the school summer holidays.

The exciting new play area provides a modern, safe and inclusive space where children can play, explore and make lasting memories. The project represents a significant investment in the local community and has transformed the site into an attractive recreational space for families.

In addition to the completion of the playground, permission has been granted from the Cabinet Office for the park to be officially named King Charles III Community Park. The name was chosen to celebrate King Charles ascension to the throne and a newly crowned 21st century monarch, and also recognises His Majesty's commitment to communities and the environment. An official opening ceremony will be arranged at a future date to celebrate both the completion of the playground and the park's new name. Further details will be announced in due course.

The playground has been made possible thanks to grant funding from FCC Communities Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that awards grants for community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund. Their support has enabled the delivery of a high-quality facility that will benefit local residents for many years to come.

Councillor Steve Clough, Chair of Killamarsh Parish Council said:
"We are delighted to see this fantastic new playground completed in time for the summer holidays. It provides a wonderful space for local children to play, stay active and enjoy the outdoors, while giving families another great place to spend time together. We are extremely grateful to FCC Communities Foundation for their generous support in making this project a reality. We also look forward to celebrating the official opening of King Charles III Community Park with the community at a future ceremony."

Penny Horne, FCC Communities Foundation grant manager, said: “It’s wonderful to see something we have funded finally open and ready to make such a difference to so many families within Killamarsh. FCC Communities Foundation is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that benefit local communities and this is a great example of what can be achieved.”

Residents are encouraged to visit the new playground over the summer and enjoy the improved facilities.
