This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the strength of our community.

These three firefighters from Stocksbridge Fire Station balance full-time jobs, family life, and everyday commitments — yet still answer the call when our community needs them most.

Today we also give a huge shout-out to the incredible women in our community — those who serve, support, inspire, and stand beside those who do. 💪

Men In Sheds Steelers Healers

Our Shed isn’t just a workshop — it’s a lifeline in the community. It’s a warm, welcoming place where men come for a brew, a chat, a laugh, and a bit of purpose. Sometimes it’s the only place someone feels safe enough to turn up to.

If you’re clearing out your garage or workshop and have tools you no longer use or need, please think of us. Those tools that served you well for years don’t deserve to sit cold and forgotten — they deserve to be warm, used, and appreciated again.

We’re more than happy to support a ladies’ session, but it won’t happen on its own. We need real interest and a few people willing to step forward and help get it off the ground.

A few snaps from when some of our crew popped into Royd Infant School at the end of January 🚒✨

The children got the inside scoop on the different types of incidents we attend and what we get up to in the community.

Best bit? Climbing aboard the fire engine and getting hands-on with our specialist equipment (future firefighters in the making! 👩‍🚒👨‍🚒).

Lots of brilliant questions, big smiles and siren-level excitement all round — we think they enjoyed it as much as we did! 😄🔥

We're hosting a Have A Go Day at Cudworth Fire Station (Tumbling Lane, Cudworth, S71 5SA) on Saturday 21 February from 9am to 12pm!

Come down and meet the crew and get a sense of what it means to be a firefighter. 🚒

As part of the day you can try on fire kit, wear a BA set and try your hand at hose running.

🚒 We are recruiting!👩‍🚒

👩‍🚒As an on-call firefighter you receive pay
based on your hours of availability, plus an hourly rate when you attend incidents,
weekly training sessions, training courses, community safety activities and carry out
equipment maintenance.

🏠 Most on-call firefighters respond from home or whilst at work, however It’s important that you seek permission from your employer if you are planning on responding to incidents during your working hours.
