Well done to firefighters for their work last night responding to a fire involving used railways sleepers in woodland near Beighton.

Firefighters from Aston Park, Birley Moor, Parkway and Central fire stations spent several hours tackling the blaze in difficult conditions.

If you know someone is starting fires in your area deliberately, report them anonymously to Firestoppers on 0800 169 5558.

A powerful piece of work from Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service.

With the weather set to stay warm over the next week, this cautionary tale feels especially important.

It’s every parent’s worst nightmare, a phone call to say their child is missing in water.

The last month or so has brought this into sharp focus, with many tragic incidents around the country involving young people entering open water and not resurfacing. In April 2025, 16-year-old Jack Lloyd sadly did just that.

Today, as part of we launch a new short film – Cold Water Shock – When Fun Turns Fatal, telling Jack’s tragic story with a heartbreaking account from his father Darren explaining the impact of the incident on him and his family. Fire and police officers also talk about the impact of these incidents, as well as giving advice about what to do to stay safe around open water.

The film was launched at a special screening event at the ODEON Luxe Peterborough

We're supporting a South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority day of action in Maltby tomorrow (Friday 19 June).

Crews from Maltby station will be near Lily Hall Road and Little Haynooking Lane offering home safety visits to residents.

Our community safety team will also join a litter pick with other partner organisations around Old Hill Top Academy and be engaging with the public at Tesco on the High Street.

We look forward to seeing you there!

👏 SYFR Success at UKRO Extrication Challenge 👏

Recently, a South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue team travelled to Surrey to compete in a United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) Extrication Challenge against some of the best rescue teams in the country.

The team performed exceptionally well, securing 2nd place in the technical element of the challenge and demonstrating the high standards, technical expertise and professionalism that exist within SYFR.

The event provided an excellent opportunity to test skills in realistic rescue scenarios and prepare for the UKRO National Challenge in September. Crews also attended a seminar on the latest Electric Vehicle (EV) rescue techniques, helping ensure SYFR remains at the forefront of operational best practice.

Well done to everyone involved on a fantastic result!
