ASB: Off-road bikes seized and reckless teenage riders detained after police aircraft pursuit 🚨

Two reckless off-road bikers riders thought balaclavas, speed and alleyway hideouts would keep them out of sight from us.

But they were wrong - because every inch of their dangerous ride across Doncaster was being watched from above 👀

The National Police Air Service (NPAS) tracked the pair as they speeded past traffic, tore up sports pitches and blasted across public parks in speeds their modified bikes were never meant to reach.

They undertook cars, overtook on blind bends and rode straight across pitches and parks.

When they finally ditched the bikes in an alleyway and crouched behind a fence, officers from our Motorcycle and Rural Crime Team were already closing in.

Second later, both were detained and both bikes were seized.

It is against the law to ride off-road bikes on public roads in the UK without a valid insurance, licence, road tax and registration plate 🚫

Riding them in parks and on pitches is also illegal too, and when bikes are modified to hit speeds of potentially more than 60mph, the risk of a serious or fatal collision dramatically increases.

📢 Doncaster East NPT Inspector Alison Carr said: "This isn't harmless fun. These bikes can cause catastrophic injuries. People deserve to use parks, roads and footpaths without the threat of off-road bikes flying past."

She also had this message for parents: "Before you buy an off-road bike for your child, please consider whether they can ride it legally and just how fast it can travel.

"Help us prevent tragedies before they happen as the last thing we want to do is knock on your door to tell you your child has been seriously injured, or worse."

So from time to time its only right the team help out in other areas of policing, it ensures we broaden our skill set and the force can utilise those skills when demand peaks. It also ensures officers in specialist roles such as the Off Road Bike Team are kept up to speed with the various policies and procedures rather than silo working which can have a habit of creating narrow mindedness.

The lack of posts have been down to a stint I've spent working as a custody sergeant, swapping the saddle for a comfy chair and handle bars for a mouse!

Apprehensive about the stint, missing the adrenaline of patrolling on two wheels, I have a new found appreciation of just how hard of an environment the custody suite is to work. The sole objective is looking after the welfare of those who find themselves in here.

The environment is like no other, dealing with a constant flow of people in arguably the lowest point of their lives. Be it legitimate reasons, to allegations that may turn out to be false, people from all backgrounds and walks of life can find themselves there.

I wanted to share a few insights of my time off the bikes, and in the cells.

Ive learnt that on searching someone, you can never imagine what they can have upon their person, a road sign, microphone, bag of frozen chicken nuggets all in one persons pockets.
Frozen Buffalo chicken wings, fake £50 notes with your mums face on, the list goes on.

Some of my colleagues here in recent weeks upon trying to look after the welfare of the detainees, have had to endure some quite alarming incidents.

Being spat in the face is a common habit, hot all day breakfast thrown is another. (Admittedly à la carte they are not).
Then for the outright bizarre, Human feacees thrown at us, seamen thrown at them, (no thats not Jonny Depp, in a big pirate hat) and even a used tampon launched at one simply enquiring if the detainee wanted any refreshments.

The staff in custody are solely there to look after the welfare of the individuals. They do not make decisions on the case. They do not attribute blame.

The nights are long and the flow of prisoners coming in are relentless.

The overwhelming majority are well behaved and polite, and leave saying thankyou, but there are the minority who no doubt what we do to appease them will go out of their way to be belligerent.

Ive learnt a great deal whilst in custody, and hope the staff in there are offered a little more respect than they currently do. They are after-all only human.

Back on the bikes soon…to join the rest of the team…

We are entering a busy time of year, please continue to report, focusing on informing us of who and where the bikes originate from. We have additional officers on our team this year which will greater improve our capabilities to tackle both the issues caused by Off road bikes and rural crime.

Not that it is anything new to us on the team, but we have seen the usual spike in incidents involving motorcycles, both electric and petrol, now the sun is out.

From machete wielding gangs, serious voilence, stabbings, drug dealing, theft and just outright dangerous riding. These riders have been putting everyone at risk.

Fatalities and serious injuries are on the rise, mainly involving young males on these motorcycles. You may think it will never happen to you.

Parents please think before letting your child out on the streets on these motorcycles.

If they are caught, we will take tenancy action against you, even if you own your own home.

Any motorcycle will be seized and your child could end up in court. If we can prove you have caused them, allowed them or permitted them to use the motorcycle we will prosecute you as well.

Suspected to be in the SYP area. This has been a devastating blow to the farmer at one of the busiest times of the year.

A gang of South Yorkshire nominals are targeting Derbyshire farmers to steal their ATV's / Quads.

Following a spate of burglaries, we assisted Derbyshire Police with their enquiries in Buck Woods Sheffield S2.

The spot regularly known for stolen vehicles used by a local gang, has been a long term stash spot for these fun loving kids, in between their extensive charitable work, care in the community and work commitments.

While searching the woods we found this Can AM ATV stashed in some trees.

The vehicle had been stolen in a burglary on the 19th April from the Derbyshire area.

Our trusty 90 made short work of getting it out.

For any local residents please don't hesitate to contact 999, if you see quads or ATV's being ridden or pushed into the woods. They are most likely stolen.

Sorry, we are still here, just super busy and dont always have time to post.

Once upon a time in Doncaster.

The team were just about to leave Woodlands Doncaster, after recovering this stolen Nissan Juke, when we spotted a stolen brown Fiesta, with the drivers door missing.

It certainly grabbed your attention, as it flew by on the Great North Road.

The two fine upstanding members of the community, were just taking charity parcels to a worthy cause, keep their sweet little heads warm with safety balaclavas.

We could see the warm glow of their halos from inside, the car.

Whilst looking for the good samaritans we spotted this motorcycle on the pavement, rider helmet on, checking out some free stuff on the pavement.

Lights on engine running, only person on the motorcycle, with one hand on the throttle.

After a bit of boxing action, the rider gave up and was placed in handcuffs.

The handwritten number plate instantly, along with the house key in the ignition and ignition wires screwed together, instantly said I am all legit officer.

Question to the rider, "IS THE BIKE YOURS"

"NO MATE JUST BORROWED IT OFF A MATE DOWN THE ROAD.

At this point, we start to notice that the rider may not be with us on planet earth and we decide to do a road side test for drugs.

We go through the usual speal, then suddenly, the rider states, "I WAS THE PASSENGER MATE."

We reply, "THE PASSENGER IT HASNT GOT A PASSENGER SEAT."

Reply. "I KNOW THATS HOW I TORE MY SHORTS."

Just to make sure I wasn't on, the same pixie dust as our learned friend, I did check over the bike for the invisible.

Convinced, I wasnt mad and there wasn't an invisible rider we proceeded.

Checks come back, motorcycle stolen, rider well known and a disqualified driver, positive test for co***ne at the roadside.

Rider arrested bike seized and off to the next job.

So, we know some of you will have seen some of these pictures elsewhere, however we have not had time recently to post.

We still do get out on the bikes and still have a few stories.

Up first this blue scooter, it is a few weeks ago now but the back story is a good one.

We were riding along the Blackburn Valley Trail and as we were passing the woods, we thought we could hear bikes.

Sure enough fresh tracks, unusually they were road tyres interesting choice for one of the sloppiest deep rutted sections of woods in Shefield.

The tyre tracks were not hard to follow and as we rounded the corner into the basin, sure enough this hard to hide bright blue scooter and a petrol powered sit on scooter are sat there.

Both engines hot, the rider of the blue scooter helmet in hand.

Hi chaps what are you doing here ?

Er well we have just pushed these here.

Pushed them here ?

Yeah we had not been in here before and we got lost. We didn't know which way to get out.

So you've pushed these all the way here through the mud and up the hills ?

Yeah, well I did sit on it and let it roll down the hill.

The engine is hot, come on just tell us straight.

It doesnt run, the engine just get's hot on its own.

Say what now ! The engine gets hot on its own.

Yeah when you push it, it gets hot.

Wow ok, where do you live ?

Address given.

So you have pushed it x miles into the woods for a few hours out and the engine just gets hot on its own.

Yeah.

Whats the helmet for then.

I put it on when I am pushing it down the road.

Ok 👍 makes sense safety first and all that.

Turns to the rider of the petrol scooter who is a little more angry.

Whats that then ?

Its a strimmer !

Sorry its a what ?

A strimmer you strim your grass with it.

Well if I wasn't already thinking these were Oscar winning performances.

The scooter identifies as a strimmer yes ?

Yeah I fix things its a strimmer !

Anyway the absurdity continues and the scooter that gets hot on its own and does not run magically fires into life and we ride it out.

The other scooter we strap to the front of our quad.

Both seized for no insurance and a summons to court. Both riders had no licence.

Sometimes our job can be stressful but its never boring.

Our officers are ‘baaaaaarrrmmy’ about keeping our rural communities safe and we're urging ewe to do the same 🐑

Spring is a time for new arrivals, and enjoying countryside walks, and as you get outside to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air, we’re urging you to remember that you must keep your dog under control around livestock.

Did you know you can receive an unlimited fine and have your dog seized if it worries sheep?

The law doesn’t require livestock to be killed for an offence to be committed.

🐑 Sheep worrying includes:

Attacking sheep
Chasing them in a way that causes injury or suffering
Abortion or loss of produce
Being at large (not being on a lead or under close control) while in a field in which there are sheep

Do your part, keep everyone safe, keep your dog on a lead or under control.

Avoided the rain today and managed to bag two stolen bikes, one stolen earlier that morning, one a few weeks ago.

One male in custody on suspicion of theft. Known locally as a Donny Dinger.

A tip-off about two bikes acting suspiciously in Mexborough set things in motion… and it delivered.

We then sighted Guy Martins second cousin twice removed wannabe take the roundabout in Catcliff at warp speed and make off on seeing us. Standard.

The adult male nearly managed the great esacpe by trying to hide his Beta 125 behind 3 wheelie bins, (Should’ve gone for four)but fair play, he was nicest bloke we’ve dealt with this week. Close but no cigar.
S6O Catcliffe crew waved off the bike, which was a Facebook Market place bargin! (VIN number as expected was scratched more than 90s Trance vinyl.
Bike seized and reported for offences.

Lighter nights, warmer weather…

Same message applies:

Ride legally and don’t nick bikes.
