JAILED: Proactive vehicle stop unearths scale of Sheffield drug dealer's offending
A proactive vehicle stop in Sheffield which uncovered a trove of weapons and drugs has helped put a man behind bars.
On 5 April 2026, the keen noses of neighbourhood officers from Sheffield South West NPT on patrol in the Sharrow area led to a Vauxhall Peugeot being searched after the officers smelled cannabis.
The driver of the vehicle, Mohammad Khan, was swiftly arrested after officers soon found several snap bags of cannabis in the car. As the 22-year-old was being transported to custody, an extensive search of his vehicle unearthed the full scale of his offending.
Within the Vauxhall were several car keys, one of which opened a nearby Hyundai I10. Within this vehicle officers located a large quantity of drugs, several large zombie style knives and a box of business cards suspected to be calling cards for a drugs line.
To allow for expert analysis and further enquiries to be conducted, Khan was bailed following his arrest. Later that month, Khan managed to evade officers during a foot chase but in the process left behind items of clothing which contained further wraps of Class A drugs.
On 3 May, a vehicle registered to Khan was involved in a collision on Sharrow Lane, with witnesses to the crash describing a man matching Khan's description fleeing the scene. A search of the vehicle involved again identified a car key which was used to open a second vehicle that contained multiple snap bags of drugs.
As the scale of Khan's offending began to be identified, Sheffield Fortify - a dedicated team responsible for tackling serious and organised crime in the district - took over the investigation and continued to carry out enquiries into Khan.
This culminated in a warrant being executed at Khan's home leading to his arrest. Within his home, a number of mobile phones were found, as well as calling cards matching the ones found in the Hyundai I10 in April 2026.
Khan, of Abbeydale Road, Sheffield, was charged with three counts of possessing with intent to supply Class A drugs, two counts of possessing with intent to supply Class B drugs, two counts of possessing a knife blade / sharp pointed article in a public place, driving a vehicle dangerously and perverting the course of justice.
Having pleaded guilty to all counts at an earlier hearing, Khan appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday (9 September) where he was jailed for six years and four months.
