This week in Foundation, we have been learning all about autumn, which led to a conversation about pumpkins. Following the children's interest, we decided to make some pumpkin soup for our snack!

A local allotment kindly donated a homegrown pumpkin to us. The children were surprised and a bit concerned to see that it was green, some of the children said "We don't want green soup!" We passed the pumpkin around the circle so everyone could guess whether it was light or heavy—for a small pumpkin, it was quite heavy!

Next, we guessed what colour it would be on the inside. There were lots of shocked and excited faces when we cut it open and revealed a bright orange center! The children took turns scraping out the seeds and carefully cutting the pumpkin. We added all our ingredients to the pan and went to the kitchen to cook it. Once it was cooked we blended it and added some cream, the children enjoyed dipping bread into their freshly made soup.

I wonder what autumnal soup we should try next?

🎉 Let’s celebrate Tiddlywinks! 🎂

Arbourthorne Tiddlywinks Centre is celebrating its 21st birthday, so on behalf of our whole community I popped in with some flowers and chocolates to say a huge thank you to the amazing staff. 💐🍫

So many local families have a great story to tell about Tiddlywinks and the difference it’s made over the last 21 years. And now even more families are benefiting, with the Government’s new 30 hours of funded childcare helping parents with the cost of giving their children a great start.

It’s a not-for-profit charity with its roots firmly in our community. Those with long memories might remember it being set up by local people and officially opened by our then Labour MP, Meg Munn.

21 years later, it’s still going strong and supporting local children and families. Here’s to the next 21! ❤️

A lovely visit to celebrate 21 years of a fantastic local nursery. 🎉 Arbourthorne Tiddlywinks Centre

It was great to meet the staff, see the brilliant work they do, and hear about the support they’ve provided to families and the local community over the past two decades.

Congratulations to everyone who has played a part in making the nursery such an important part of the community.
