Come and meet your local police team and other partnership agencies to talk to us about any local issues or to receive some crime prevention advise.

Officers reassure community following protest in Sheffield

Following a protest in Darnall over the weekend, officers remain in the area on patrol and will be attending local groups to talk to residents and offer reassurance.

On Sunday morning (11 October) at 5.30am we received reports of a large gathering of people on Catley Road.

We received no prior notification of the protest and our enquiries suggest this formed part of a national coordination of targeted activity. The group was protesting in the location of a commercial premises, there is no intelligence to suggest the location was selected to target the local community.

Experienced and trained officers from the Tactical Support Group attended and the group dispersed around 8.40am.

Neighbourhood officers are conducting foot patrols in the area and will be attending local groups this evening to talk to and support residents.

Neighbourhoods Inspector Katie Hammond said: “We understand how waking up to a gathering of this nature would have been worrying for our communities and those living in the area.

“This was a nationally co-ordinated gathering, with a gathering simultaneously taking place in London.

“Our officers are continuing to monitor national intelligence and do not believe there to be any wider risk to our local community.

“We are working alongside national teams to identity those involved.

“Officers out today are there for you, if you have any concerns please speak to them.”

NEWS: Officers have increased patrols in Darnall following a large gathering of people this morning (Sunday 11 October).

At 5.30am we received reports of a gathering of people on Catley Road, in Sheffield.

Officers attended and the group dispersed at around 8.40am. The event largely passed without incident.

After the group dispersed we received a report of criminal damage. It is reported the road was graffitied. This is in the process of being removed.

Neighbourhoods Inspector Andrew Rimmer said: "We understand that this gathering will have caused concern within the local community.

"This was a contained incident involving a nationally coordinated gathering in front of a locked bus compound and there is no intelligence to suggest there is any wider risk to the local ccommunity.

"Officers continue to monitor the location, with additional patrols put in place to provide the local community with reassurance.

"If you see our officers around today, then we encourage you to stop and speak to them about any concerns you may have – they are there to help and support you."

PROJECT SERVATOR: Did you spot our officers today? They could be in any place at any time and today (Thursday 8 October) they popped up at Meadowhall 🛍️

Our deployments are unpredictable meaning there is nothing to say we won't be back tomorrow - we will never advertise where we're going to be next.

Project Servator deployments are highly visible 👮‍♀️ but also utilise other tactics such as plain clothes officers and closely monitored live CCTV cameras.

The difference between Project Servator and other police deployments is that officers are specially trained to spot the tell-tale signs that someone may be carrying out hostile reconnaissance. This is the process adopted by some people who may be planning or preparing to commit a criminal act.

You can help us by being our extra eyes and ears 👀 👂

If you spot something that concerns you or appears out of the ordinary as you go about your daily business, don’t think someone else will sort it. Report it to police or a member of staff. Always call 999 in an emergency 📞

SERVATOR: Earlier today our team popped up at Meadowhall engaging with security and the public - recruiting them to keep their eyes 👀 and ears 🦻 out to report suspicious behaviour.

Our specially trained officers, who are able to identify anyone showing signs of criminal intent including terrorism, can't be everywhere - but we could be anywhere.

Patrols are highly visible and you'll see us speaking to members of the public, local business staff and security to help build up our network of vigilance.

However, you won't see every aspect of our deployments, such as police in plain clothes and operators who monitor live CCTV. We also sometimes use drones, mounted police and fi****ms officers, depending on our specific requirements.

If you come across a Servator deployment while you're out and about, it's nothing to worry about. They are part of normal business and are not based on intelligence regarding a specific area. We believe that 'together, we've got it covered' 🤝 and that's why we ask you to remain vigilant and report anything that appears out of the ordinary.

This could be anything from an unattended bag to someone filming CCTV spots or the entrances and exits of buildings. If it doesn't feel right, report it.

You'll never be wasting our time. You can report online, by calling 101 or by telling a police officer or member of security. Remember to always dial 999 in an emergency ☎️

Do you know your Rogue Traders from your Cold Callers?

We are seeing an increase in reports of both, so if you are unsure, please read on for advice and what they are and how to protect yourself.

🚨 Rogue Traders 🚨

Rogue traders are individuals that go door to door trying to defraud you by pressuring sales, stating they are working on a house down the road from yours and have noticed you house needs some maintenance that they could do for "cheap" or portraying to be a charity collecting. The traders will provide false identities or contact information and will ask for payments up front to cover costs of materials.

How to protect yourself
• Take your time to think about the offer – try not to agree to anything immediately that involves advanced payments or having to sign a contract straight away. No official business or organisation would force you to make a decision on the spot or make a transaction.
• Speak to a trusted person first, this could be a friend, family member or another professional that you know works in the trade they are portraying for their opinion.
• Check if they are registered under the local council as an approved trader.
• Call the company they are representing to verify their identity, however, don’t use the contact details they provide you. Search the company and use the details you find yourself.
• Check online for any reviews.

Vishing (Phone Calls)

Phone calls from criminals pretending to be from legitimate companies such as banks, internet or mobile phone providers or the Police.

They may:
• Ask you to confirm passwords or security codes
• Request remote access to your computer to ‘help’ you
• Pressure you to make urgent payments
• Claim your account has been compromised
• Report the number to 7726 through text

Remember: Legitimate organisations will never pressure you to share confidential information or make payments over the phone.

TRAFFIC: Please be aware that a road closure is in place on Ravenscroft Road, Stradbroke Road, and Richmond Road in Sheffield, due to a road traffic collision.

We are advising people to avoid the area and plan an alternative route if possible. Thank you

NEWS: Our officers were in Sheffield's Meadowhall shopping centre today (Thursday 17 March).

They deploy unpredictably all year round and there's nothing to say they won't be back again today 👀

We never advertise where we're going to be next and officers are specially trained to spot the tell-tale signs that someone may be planning or preparing to commit a criminal act.

Project Servator is a policing tactic aimed at disrupting a range of criminal activity, including terrorism.

We use a variety of resources including operators who monitor live CCTV cameras, drones, police in plain clothes and fi****ms officers - depending on our specific requirements.

You'll see us speaking to retail and security staff as well as members of the public as we build up our network of vigilance. If you do come across us, it's nothing to be worried about.

Protecting waterfowl and wildlife from catapults 🦢

This week our officers have responded to reports of cygnets being shot at and injured.

We have also seen neighbouring police forces suffer the same tragic events.

As ‘Rural Crime Week’ continues across the country, we are urging everyone to be vigilant and report suspicious activity to us.

Killing and injuring wild birds is illegal and is covered by The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. This legislation makes it an offence to kill, injure or take any wild bird or take, damage or destroy the nest of a wild bird.

Anyone found guilty of these offences can be sentenced to six months in prison and face a fine of up to £5000.

Research highlights that those involved in using a catapult and ball bearings to injure animals are more likely to be youths- parents, we urge you to speak to your children if you suspect they are involved in this criminality or own equipment.

Carrying a catapult and ball bearings is not harmless fun, it can be deemed as an offensive weapon if officers suspect they are being used to injured people, animals or damage property.
