Carrying your big kid has never been easier. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love being carried around when their legs are tired. With one of our carriers, you could march up Mam Tor, breeze through Meadowhall, or do laps of your road as Alix is showing in the video.

Our carriers are as well-travelled as our community and we’re thinking you might make your next trip easier by having one stowed away just the right moment. With next week being half-term, we are expecting families with big kids to need some extra support for your special journeys. Whether you’re going north, south, east or west, we’ve got big kid carriers that might make the trip that much easier. Check out our selection of big kid carriers or ask one of us for some help.

Ever stared at those little tabs at the top of your carrier and thought, "what do these things actually do?"
The ones pointing down size the panel for baby. The ones pointing up are perfect-fit adjusters.

Think Goldilocks:
PFAs undone = Papa Bear. Loads of padding, baggy round the shoulders, baby feels far away.
PFAs done up tight = Mama Bear. Padding stops short, webbing starts to dig.
PFAs just right = Baby Bear. Padding sits where you need it, baby pulls in close, no gap at the top.

That's their whole job. They change how long the padded part of the strap is, so you get a cosy fit whether you're petite, tall, or sharing with someone.

Quick try today: find the two little straps where the shoulder meets the panel and have a play to see if it changes how your carrier feels.

No PFAs on yours and the straps never feel right? Come and try one that has them — we hire out the Isara The One and the LennyUpgrade Pro, both made with PFAs for that just-right feel.

Many carriers are designed to support kids beyond 5 years. They’re not for children who refuse to walk, but for big kids who still need carrying sometimes.
* After school meltdown at the shops.
* A walk that turned into a carry up Mam Tor
* A big day day out to the zoo or an amusement park when legs just give up
* Festivities that last all day.
At the Sheffield Sling Library, we understand that carriers are not just for little ones. Carrying your child regardless of their age is something that we should celebrate. Borrow one from us today. We can help you choose the right one for you and your child.

- buckle trouble!

Ever tried to do up your carrier and found that you can't fasten the buckle without twisting the strap? Your buckle has flipped over!

This can happen when a bit of twisted strap was accidentally pulled through whilst tightening, but happily its an easy fix.

The best part is, this will also work on tangled high chair straps, car seat straps, pushchair straps...... save it and thank us later 😉

Hot weather carrying!

We had a lot of queries about this in the recent heatwave, so Will and I decided to scare the sunshine away by filming this reel for you outdoors.......

But if you are looking ahead to summer adventures near or far, let us know! This is just a small selection of the more lightweight/compact carriers we have available to hire, and the given age ranges are *really* approximate - ask us if unsure! We've options to suit all ages and plans.

Hire from £8.50, carriers availble to collect from our Sheffield office or posted direct to your door, and free fit checks with every hire. We even have ear defenders and raincovers to hire out from £5, so whether you are getting festival ready, preparing for travel, or just wanting to explore the amazing countryside around us, we can help!

Due to an unfortunate accident up on Stanage, my friends and I got to test beyond the limits of our biggest carrier the XL.

Turns out it passed with flying colours.

We added the XL carrier into the library for bigger kids who have outgrown the preschool sizes, think lanky older kids who still need carrying. What Rose and Rebellion don't put on the website is also works as a Mountain Rescue service. It was brought along as an emergency carrier in case one of the kids wanted a carry back down. Well, after rolling her ankle, it turns out that my friend was the one who needed some carrying. No need to phone mountain rescue as we were able to clip her in and walked her back down the cars.

Honestly, the benefit of big slings isn't just for toddlers who never want to walk. It's for:
* long days outside when big kids hit their limit
* adventures where you need proper support
* when your friend accidentally slips off a rock

If you think your older one might need a carry, then check it out from our library.
