Sheffield Assay Office

Sheffield Assay Office More than 250 years in business providing specialist Hallmarking, Analytical & Diamond Verification Services Our process is also fully RJC/BSI/ISO accredited.

The Sheffield Assay Office attracts customers from all over the world and the business has evolved to meet the demands of society and industry. Jewellery and items of precious metal are still assayed in their millions each year and bear the distinctive Sheffield 'Town' mark. The Sheffield Assay office now has a world-wide reputation in other arenas too, particularly in cutting-edge analytical ser

vices. Hallmarking is the oldest form of consumer protection, dating back as far as 1300. When a statute of Edward I established the assay (test and analysis) and marking for precious metals, with the aim of protecting the public against fraud and the trader against unfair competition. http://www.assayoffice.co.uk/our-services

Sheffield Analytical Services is a division of the Assay Office and, although grown from a business rooted in history, remains at the cutting edge of technology and innovation. Our superbly equipped laboratories and high qualified personnel are widely acknowledged for both the range of testing and analysis procedures and their impressive expertise - which has resulted in Analytical Services being one of the first UK laboratories to be awarded UKAS accreditation to ISO 17025 standard. An accreditation which has been retained for 38 years - a considerable achievement given that the rigorous assessment is carried out every year. http://www.assayoffice.co.uk/analytical-services

Diamond Verification Services (DVS) offers a set diamond service: a diamond jewellery testing service designed to verify that all diamonds within your jewellery are natural. As the number of lab-grown diamonds in the market continues to soar, we recognised an urgent need for retailers, and consumers alike, to have access to a fully independent, specialist service that can accurately identify the presence of natural or lab-grown/synthetic diamonds. https://www.diamondverificationservices.co.uk/

Sheffield Assay Office is proud to be taking part in the Master Cutler’s Challenge 2026, raising funds for Weston Park Cancer Charity.

The Master Cutler’s Challenge is a regional initiative that brings together organisations from across Sheffield and South Yorkshire to raise money in support of a chosen charity. This year’s challenge focuses on improving cancer treatment and care across the region, making it a cause that touches many of our colleagues, families, and wider community.

As part of our contribution, we are organising a sponsored walk and inviting staff to get involved.

Route Overview

The walk will begin at Endcliffe Park, heading through the scenic Mayfield Valley, following Porter Clough and alongside the Porter Brook.
We will continue towards the Norfolk Arms at Ringinglow, before crossing and walking through Lady Canning's Plantation, reaching Ox Stones.
From there, the route heads towards Burbage Edge, before crossing over to Stanage Edge.
We will then descend from Stanage, passing by Brookfield Manor, and continue into Hathersage.
The route is approximately 9 miles and includes varied, moderately challenging terrain.

How to Get Involved

To support our staff and Weston Park Cancer Charity, please donate via our donation page. Any contribution is gratefully received, and you can also send an encouraging message to help the team smash their fundraising target! By donating, you’ll be part of a regional effort to improve cancer care while backing our team’s initiative at Sheffield Assay Office.
