Poppies for Remembrance

A big thank you to the students from Longley Park Sixth Form who helped the North East Local Area Committee put up poppies in the local area in preparation for Remembrance.

It was lovely to have the students involved, giving their time to support this important community activity and helping us ensure that those who served are remembered.

Thank you to the students, staff and Firth Park Labour Councillors: Fran Belbin and Abdul Khayum who took part and helped make a difference in our local community.

Our Poppy Trails have moved on to Southey Ward! Thank you so much to all our Southey Councillors Councillor Mike Chaplin Cllr Paul Jakeman - Reform UK and Councillor Yvonne Sykes, Gill Furniss MP, Meynell Community Primary School and members of the Pride In Place Board who came along to help the LAC team put up poppies for Remembrance Day.

Young people helping their Community

We were delighted to be joined by Year 6 pupils from Watercliffe Meadow Primary School in Burngreave, who helped the North East Local Area Committee put up poppies in the local area ahead of Remembrance.

It was lovely to see the pupils taking such an active role in their community and contributing to this special display.

A huge thank you to the pupils and staff at Watercliffe Meadows Primary School for helping us.

Supporting Active Travel at Pye Bank CoE Primary School

It was great to visit Pye Bank CoE Primary School this week alongside the Modeshift STARS Active Travel team for an active travel inspection around the school.

A real highlight was being joined by the school’s Eco-Council, made up of pupils from different age groups. The pupils took part in the walk around the local area, giving them an opportunity to be involved and share their views on journeys to and from school.

It was lovely to see young people getting involved in conversations about their local area and thinking about safer, healthier and more sustainable ways to travel.

A big thank you to the pupils, school staff and the Modeshift STARS team for such an enjoyable and useful visit.

Today was our installation of the Shiregreen and Wincobank Poppy Trails for Remembrance Day. Thank you so much to our three Shiregreen and Brightside Councillors and the pupils and teachers from Brigantia Hill Fort Infant and Juniors, Hatfield Primary Academy and Hartley Brook Primary Schools.

🐱💚 OUR FIRST FREE CAT HEALTH CHECK VAN DAY WAS A SUCCESS! 💚🐾

On Monday, we held our very first free cat health check van day as part of our Community Cats & Care project, and we're delighted to share that we supported 5 cat owners and 7 cats! 🥹💚

It was a fantastic start to our project, helping local cat owners access support and giving their feline friends the opportunity to get checked over by our friendly team.

A HUGE thank you to Rain Rescue for providing the use of their van and for all their help in making our first van day possible. We'd also like to say a special thank you to Kerry at Shirecliffe Community Centre for making us feel so welcome at our first vet van day! 💚🐾

After months of listening, learning and travelling together on our Sheffield Together journey, we're delighted to invite you to the official launch of Sheffield's Preventing Serious Violence Strategy and Action Plan on Thursday 29th October 2026. The event is child friendly and open to everyone.

10:00am - 2:00pm | Community Fun Day & Exhibition Family fun activities plenty to do for everyone come and explore the journey so far through interactive displays, artwork, activities and exhibitions showcasing what we've heard from communities, partners and young people. There will be opportunities to get involved, share your vision for Sheffield and enjoy a range of family friendly activities and attractions.


1:00pm - 2:00pm | Food & Networking Take a break, enjoy some free lunch (chips!) and connect with colleagues, partners and community organisations from across the city.

2:00pm - 4:30pm | Strategy Launch Event Climb back on board for the official launch of the strategy, featuring guest speakers, presentations and contributions from young people who have helped shape Sheffield's response to preventing serious violence. The launch presentation focuses on "The Journey So Far" and "Where the Journey Continues To"

Don’t pay to claim

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is highlighting that Claims Management Companies are contacting pensioners, offering to handle claims for benefits like Attendance Allowance or missing Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP), for a fee.

This isn’t illegal, but the fees can be several hundred pounds. Some people don’t realise they’ve entered into an agreement until it’s too late.

The message DWP want to get across is straightforward: if you’re eligible for these benefits, it’s free to claim them.

Independent and trusted help is available for free from organisations including Citizens Advice and Independent Age

BT proposes to remove a payphone (the phone box and the equipment) on Hartley Brook Road (at the junction with Nether Shire Lane).

Why your views matter:
The Council is collating views on the permanent removal of this service.
BT have already put a notice in the kiosk.
If the Council is to object to the removal of a payphone, it must be supported by relevant evidence, specifically relating a reasonable need for that payphone.

The Council’s public consultation on these proposed removals commences for a three-week period from 19th October 2026 to 10th November 2026 (5pm) on the Have Your Say Sheffield website here:
