Many of our members went to today's Lantern Festival in Parkwood Springs. The atmosphere was electric.

Tommorow (Saturday), be sure to join the Lantern Procession in Parkwood Springs. It will be lots of fun.

We've all been working hard refurbishing lanterns, and Patrick Amber and Jo Veal have been helping you mend old ones and make some fabulous new ones - this year's theme is Together for Nature. It's nearly time to show them all off at the Lantern Festival this coming Saturday 17th October. Things will be happening on the heliport field, S5 8XB, from 4.30pm and the Sheffield Samba Band will lead the procession off about 5.45. We will finish with a fire dance display by Mr Fox at about 7pm.

We could still do with help on the day, if you would like to volunteer contact us on [email protected]. We would be grateful for any time you can spare.

A group of our members, today, explored the Parkwood Springs park and have learned a lot about the Potential SkyLine project to change this beautiful area in favour of a Go Karting place. Parkwood Springs is partially in our ward and there is a general consensus that this would be a bad redevelopment for the local communities who enjoy the park as it is. It's a complicated issue and we are still learning more, but if you love Parkwood Springs then there is a QR code below that will take you to a petition you can sign.

Yes - it is that time of the year again! Get involved in this amazing Friends of Parkwood Springs event.

It's that lantern making time of year again!

The 2026 Parkwood Springs Lantern Festival is on Saturday October 17th and local artists Patrick Amber and Jo Veal will be running their ever popular lantern making workshops starting next Saturday 26th, from 11am to 4pm. Most will be at Abbeyfield House, Burngreave Road, S3 9DL, but on October 10th there will also be one at Shirecliffe Community Centre, Shirecliffe Road, S5 8XL. This year's theme is Together for Nature and we've got financial support from the Sheffield Town Trust.

All materials will be provided and the activities are suitable for all ages - including some sessions where we will be sprucing up our giant lanterns from previous festivals. Come on down and make yourself an animal mask - what are you going to be on the procession - a badger, a squirrel, a fox?

Green Party activist Abeer Alibbi, has once again held a workshop for young girls in the local area. Letting creativity fly is a joy and to see it happening in the area, led from one of our own team members, is wonderful.
"Today, I had the pleasure of delivering another creative workshop for girls aged 13+ at Wensley Centre. This was our second successful workshop, and it was wonderful to see the girls express their creativity and develop their skills through drawing, painting and hands-on activities. They also had the opportunity to continue and complete the projects they started during last week’s session. I’m really pleased to have delivered two workshops over two consecutive weeks, giving the girls a positive and creative space to learn, express themselves, build confidence and discover their talents. It has been lovely seeing their ideas develop from the first session to the second and watching what they were able to create. 🎨"
