LOOKING FOR ONE CAREFUL OWNER OF A WHITE MG!

Burngreave Neighbourhood officers on patrol last week spotted a gentleman sat in a white MG on Nottingham Street, Burngreave, looking rather settled.

Upon noticing the approach of our colleagues the gentlemen decided the local scenery was much more appealing on foot and made a swift exit.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a selection of illegal substances, along with a few other items we’d very much like to discuss with its recent occupant.

With no owner immediately available for a chat, we called in our recovery partners. They arrived with their impressive recovery robot that lifted the MG up and carried it onto the back of the truck like it was collecting a wayward shopping trolley. The car is now safely stored in our compound pending identification of recent occupant.

If you are the gentleman who left his white MG in hurry, or if you know who it belongs to, please get in touch with us. We’d like to return the vehicle… and have a quiet word about the items recovered from inside it.

We’re always happy to reunite people with their cars . . . preferably after a conversation that doesn’t involve any more sudden departures.

Illegal use of vehicles continues to be a area of concerns for our communities as such we take steps to remove these vehicles for the road where we can.

Officers have recovered the below bike, which is suspected to be stolen, and we are now appealing for the owner to come forward.

The bike was recovered following a house search earlier this month, and officers believe it has been stolen from the North East area of Sheffield.

NEWS: Two further arrests in High Green explosive substances investigation

Detectives leading the investigation into potential explosive substances in High Green have made two further arrests.

A man in his 60s and woman in her 50s were arrested under Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act and on suspicion of drug offences. They have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Aneela Khalil-Khan, who is leading the investigation, said:“While one suspect has been charged and two more have been questioned, our investigation is very much ongoing.

“While we are aware of the public and media interest in this operation, we are limited in what we can say due to the active court proceedings. We remind the public to avoid speculating on social media.

“What I can say is that our priority throughout has been keeping the public safe.”

On Sunday, a woman in her 30s was charged with an offence under Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act. She appeared in court on Monday and was remanded in custody.

The search at the house on Mapplebeck Road, led by the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Team, concluded on Wednesday. Specialists recovered suspected chemicals, drugs, and weapons. There is no longer a risk to nearby properties or people.

UPDATE: Cordon in High Green lifted, enabling residents to return home

The 100-metre cordon around a house on Mapplebeck Road in High Green has been lifted, enabling residents to return to their homes.

On behalf of all involved in the search operation, we thank residents for their patience and understanding. We do not underestimate the disruptive impact evacuations have on peoples’ lives and only take these decisions to keep people safe.

While the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Team has confirmed there is no longer a risk to nearby homes, the investigation into potential explosive substances is ongoing.

UPDATE: Joint update from South Yorkshire Police and Sheffield City Council: ongoing cordon and evacuation in High Green

We know this continues to be a difficult and unsettling time for everyone affected by the ongoing search and investigation taking place at a property in Mapplebeck Road, High Green, and we would like to thank residents for their continued patience, understanding and support.

Due to the complexity of the search and investigation, and the need to ensure the safety of local people, emergency service personnel and partner agencies, the evacuation and associated road closures remain in place this afternoon.

We are doing all we can to try to get those who have been evacuated back to their homes as quickly as possible, however, at present, we are unable to confirm if residents will be able to return to their homes this evening. Therefore, we are encouraging people to make plans to be away from their homes and businesses for another evening, as a precaution.

We appreciate that it will be frustrating and disappointing that we are unable to give affected residents a specific timescale regarding returning home. Please be assured that all agencies involved are working together to progress the operation as safely and efficiently as possible, while carefully managing the significant risks involved.

Residents affected by the evacuation are encouraged to follow Sheffield North East NPT on Facebook for the latest operational updates and information about the ongoing police response.

For information about the support available to those affected, please follow Sheffield City Council's channels. Anyone requiring assistance with accommodation or housing-related matters should contact 01142930111.

UPDATE: A message from Gold Commander Assistant Chief Constable Ian Proffitt on the ongoing cordon and evacuation in High Green.

Our focus remains on ensuring we can carry out our ongoing search and investigation safely and effectively, while we continue to work alongside partners including Sheffield City Council who are supporting those affected.

UPDATE: The police cordon on Mapplebeck Road, High Green, is expected to remain in place throughout today while emergency services and specialist agencies continue their work to ensure the affected property and surrounding homes are safe.

We don’t underestimate the impact this has had on those affected and want to thank residents for their continued patience, understanding and cooperation.

Throughout this incident, emergency services, the local authority, health partners and other agencies have been working closely together to support residents. This has included providing assistance for those requiring medication or healthcare support, and arranging accommodation for anyone unable to stay with family or friends.

We understand how challenging this situation is for local people and remain committed to ensuring everyone affected receives the support they need while this important safety work continues.

A 36 year old appeared in court earlier this week charged with offences under the Explosive Substances Act. She was remanded in custody until a future court date.

We will provide further updates when we are able to do so.
