Sadly, the time has come for us to close our station page.

Over the years, this page has allowed us to share with you all our jobs, our training, our milestones, and the moments that make our station what it is. From incidents and exercises to community events and new recruits - it’s been a way of showing you what our local firefighters do. 🔥 🚒

To all our followers and community - thank you for the support, encouragement and engagement! ❤️

Although the page is closing, nothing else changes. We are still here - training, drilling, developing our skills and ready to respond to our community whenever we are needed. 🚨

Our station currently has 8 firefighters and we are always looking to grow. This will be our final push from our local page. If you think you would like to join us, please get in touch, view the NYFRS website or pop into our drill night on a Wednesday, 18:30-20:30 for more information.

Please be sure to give our district page a follow as we will have members of our crew as admins to update you all on relevant aspects of Sherburn fire stations life:

We will leave you with some of our favourite pictures from over the years, including current and past crew members. Thank you and goodbye ❤️

As previously mentioned, our page will be closed and we will be moving to our new Ryedale district page.

We really hope that you will all give us a follow! ❤️

It’s not very often it happens, but, tonight all crew members attended our weekly drill night at the same time. This of course, called for an update to our station picture. 🔥🚒

We’re incredibly fortunate to have a fire station right here in our village. It’s a vital asset—but only if it has the crew it needs to respond when it matters most. Without enough On-Call Firefighters, our engine simply can’t respond to emergencies, no matter how close they are or how serious the incident may be. That means waiting for the next nearest fire engine to arrive—and in a rural county like ours, that wait can be a long one. In life threatening situations, every minute counts!

We need people who are willing and available to offer their time. We’re not asking you to change your life—we’re asking you to use your life to help others when they need it most. Maybe you work from home, have days off between shifts, are around on evenings or weekends, or even available while you’re asleep—any availability helps. Being On-Call doesn’t mean putting your life on hold, it means being ready to respond when needed.

Fire stations and their crews don’t just respond to fires. We attend road traffic collisions, water rescues, animal rescues, and environmental incidents. We also work hard to educate our community, support the most vulnerable, and keep people safer in their homes by working with partner agencies by carrying out home fire safety visits.

Our current crew do very well to keep the fire engine available as much as what it is however, it could be better and there are times where we don't have enough crew. Without a crew, the station is simply an empty building...

If you or someone you know might be interested in joining us, please get in touch. Your time could save a life.

If you do apply, before you go any further, you will have an informal discussion with our District Watch Manager who tell you much more about the role in detail, to see if it's for you.

To apply follow this link and search for Sherburn (YO17).

Over the Christmas period we attended a high number of incidents involving chimneys, open fires/wood burners and carbon monoxide alarms.
With colder weather we experience in winter fires and wood burners will be getting used much more frequently, but before you light your fire think, have you had your chimney swept recently?
• Chimneys should be swept at least once a year for smokeless fuels, at least twice a year for bituminous coal, and quarterly when in use for wood
• Do not store logs or other flammable items next to your fire/woodburner as radiated heat can cause these items to catch fire.
• Have your appliance serviced and cleaned regularly by a trained and registered chimney engineer.
• Buy an audible carbon monoxide alarm to keep in the same room as your fire and test it monthly.
If your carbon monoxide alarm sounds, it's important to act fast!
• If you suspect carbon monoxide poisoning recognise the symptoms, dizziness, headaches, breathlessness and nausea, and seek medical attention immediately
• Call the national gas emergency number on 0800 111 999
• Turn off appliances, open windows and doors to ventilate the property and leave the property.
