🦷 Is your child grinding their teeth? Here’s what you need to know.

Hearing your child grinding their teeth can be worrying, especially when it sounds loud. 😬 But try not to worry - teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, is common in children and teenagers, particularly during sleep. It often improves as they get older and may stop by adulthood.

πŸ‘Ά Why does it happen?

Children may grind their teeth for a variety of reasons, but one of the most common is when new teeth are coming through. The good news is that, in most cases, it does not need treatment and usually resolves on its own.

🦷 When might treatment be needed?

Teeth grinding is usually only treated if it starts to cause problems such as tooth wear, jaw pain, or sleep disruption. For most children and teenagers, it is usually harmless.

πŸ’¬ If you are ever unsure or concerned, speak to your dentist for advice.

Your child's journey to school starts at home. We understand that all children develop at their own pace, and that we’re all learning from birth. With school readiness, some children will need more help than others.

🩷 World Breastfeeding Week 2026 🩷

This World Breastfeeding Week, alongside the excellent advice from the Breastfeeding Network, we’re sharing some simple ways to help your little one develop a healthy toothbrushing routine from the very start. 🦷✨

βœ”οΈ Start brushing as soon as the first tooth appears - brush twice a day, with the most important brush being last thing at night and one other time during the day.

βœ”οΈ Use the right amount of toothpaste - a smear for children under 3 years old and a pea-sized amount for everyone aged 3 and over.

βœ”οΈ Choose toothpaste containing 1450ppm fluoride - this provides the best protection against tooth decay. Check the toothpaste tube or packaging for the fluoride level.

βœ”οΈ Spit, don’t rinse! - rinsing with water or mouthwash washes away the protective fluoride left on the teeth.

βœ”οΈ Keep helping with brushing until age 7 - children need support to reach all the tricky areas, especially at the back of the mouth.

πŸ’š Building healthy habits early can help protect little smiles for life.

πŸ‘ΆπŸ¦· Check back tomorrow for more top tips, focusing on oral health for both mum and baby.
