Good evening from Annual Camp!
Day 6 has been another fantastic day at camp. While the cooler weather was certainly welcomed, it did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm and energy of our cadets, who have once again demonstrated outstanding commitment, teamwork, and pride throughout the day.
Today was Visitors' Day, and we were delighted to welcome a number of distinguished guests to camp, giving them the opportunity to see first-hand the incredible experiences and development our cadets are gaining.
Our cadets were excellent ambassadors for Shropshire Army Cadet Force, confidently demonstrating their newly acquired skills, speaking proudly about their experiences, and showcasing the opportunities that the Army Cadets provides. We would like to thank all of our visitors for taking the time to join us, with a special thank you to the Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Anna Turner Shropshire Lieutenancy, for her continued support.
A Company – Fieldcraft
A Company spent the day completing a range of fieldcraft assessments, including Withdrawal from Contact drills, a variety of 1 and 2 Star Army Cadet Syllabus (ACS) assessments, and weapon cleaning.
Cadets also had the opportunity to put their skills into practice on the Close Quarters Battle (CQB) lane, using paintball equipment to conduct pairs fire and movement drills in a realistic and engaging training environment. They also took part in exercises using laser engagement equipment, allowing them to simulate the pressures and decision-making of a realistic firefight in a safe and controlled setting. This immersive training helped reinforce teamwork, communication, and tactical awareness while making the experience both challenging and enjoyable.
After returning from the training area, everyone enjoyed a well-earned opportunity to shower, relax, and enjoy a hot meal before preparing for the next day's activities.
B Company – In-Camp Training
B Company enjoyed a varied and action-packed programme within camp. Throughout the day, cadets took part in the Gun Run, drill practice, and Skill at Arms (SAA) Weapons Handling Tests (WHTs).
They also received an introduction to military music, learning about the bugle and drums, before moving on to Communication and Information Systems (CIS) training using Personal Role Radios (PRRs). To round off the day, cadets enjoyed the fast-paced challenge of Archery Tag.
A real highlight for B Company was a visit from the Royal Military Police (RMP), who brought along one of their police vehicles and a selection of specialist equipment. Cadets were able to speak with serving personnel, explore the vehicle, and learn more about the role of the RMP, making it a memorable experience for everyone.
C Company and Senior Cadets – Shooting
C Company and our Senior Cadets spent the day on the ranges, completing the Shooting module of the Army Cadet Syllabus (ACS). Cadets fired both the Air Rifle and the L98 Cadet GP Rifle as part of their 1, 2 and 3 Star training.
It was an exceptionally successful day, with a large number of cadets achieving their shooting qualifications. Their excellent results are a testament to their concentration, determination, and the high standard of coaching provided by the training team. Congratulations to everyone who achieved a pass today.
The day concluded with our Senior Cadets' Regimental Dinner Night, one of the most anticipated traditions of Annual Camp. The evening began with a performance by the Band and Bugles, providing a fitting start to this special occasion. Before dinner, the Senior Cadets gathered for a formal regimental photograph, creating another lasting memory of their time at camp.
The cadets then enjoyed a traditional Regimental Dinner, an event that has become a real highlight for our senior cadets over the years. We hope our newest cohort of Senior Cadets enjoyed the experience just as much, appreciating the privilege of taking part in this long-standing tradition and creating memories that will stay with them long after camp has ended.
As another brilliant day at Annual Camp comes to a close, we can all reflect on the positive feedback received from our visitors. They were highly complementary of both our cadets and our dedicated Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs), praising the professionalism, enthusiasm, and high standards displayed throughout the day.
