Over the course of June 2026, we have had many events such as sports night, open night, and a ready steady cook challenge. These events allow our cadets to express interest in a wide array of new opportunities. Being at 28Sqn RAFAC, we try to organise opportunities like these as much as possible as it can encourage communication, teamwork, and resilience.

Since moving into our new home in January of 2025, it has always felt like a temporary space and not our home. So with the help of the staff we have have decided to change that.

Our first project is the tea bar, a place for cadets to have their canteen, relax and have a minute away from the hustle and bustle of a parade night.

May has been another fantastic month for our squadron packed with achievements, training, and opportunities for cadets to develop new skills.
We started the month in style with our Annual Awards Evening, held in the Officers' Mess at RAF Shawbury. Cadets, staff and guests enjoyed a three-course meal while celebrating the hard work and achievements of our cadets over the past year. Congratulations once again to all award winners – see our previous post for the full list of recipients.
Training resumed with a squadron-wide Uniform Inspection, where cadets demonstrated the high standards of dress and turnout expected within the RAF Air Cadets. This was followed by our Squadron Paper Plate Awards, providing a fun and light-hearted evening for everyone involved.
Cadets then took part in a variety of training activities throughout the month. Drill and banner drill sessions helped cadets improve their confidence, discipline and teamwork, while leadership and team building activities challenged cadets to communicate effectively and develop their leadership skills. A Bushcraft evening also gave cadets the opportunity to learn useful fieldcraft and outdoor survival skills.
Our monthly Sports Night was a great success, with cadets enjoying competitive games of rounders and football, encouraging teamwork, fitness and plenty of friendly competition.

To finish the month, we were pleased to welcome a representative from RAF College Cranwell, who delivered an engaging presentation on RAF Officer training pathways and the development of leadership within the Royal Air Force. We were also joined by cadets from 1030 and 2192 Squadrons, who took part in the evening. The session provided a fascinating insight into officer training, leadership development and career opportunities within the RAF.

A special congratulations goes to Sgt Pritchard on their promotion to Flight Sergeant Pritchard – a well-earned achievement and a proud moment for the Squadron. Keep an eye out for more promotions to come!

A very special day for two 28 Squadron alumni.

Yesterday, former Cadet Flight Sergeant Amelia Brien and former Cadet Sergeant Ewan Smith attended the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award ceremony at Buckingham Palace, with HRH Prince Edward in attendance.

FS Brien, now Officer Cadet Brien (YUAS), and Sgt Smith both enjoyed outstanding cadet careers with us at 28 Squadron, demonstrating commitment, leadership, and dedication throughout their time as cadets. Their achievements within the squadron have helped prepare them for the next stage of their journeys, and it is fantastic to see them both now thriving at university and continuing to pursue new challenges and opportunities.

The Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a remarkable achievement which recognises resilience, perseverance, teamwork, leadership, and service to the community. Completing the award requires months of hard work and determination, making this recognition at Buckingham Palace a truly special and well-deserved occasion.

We are incredibly proud of both Amelia and Ewan and delighted that 28 Squadron has been able to play a part in their journey and development. We wish them every success for the future and look forward to seeing all they go on to achieve.
