❓ Are you throwing away your recycling?

More than 15% of what ends up in our general rubbish is paper or card that could be recycled in your blue bag!

When recyclable items go into the general rubbish bin they go to waste instead of being turned into something new.

🤔 Let’s work together to get that number down. Before you throw it away, think if it actually belongs in your blue bag.

⚠️ Please don’t put batteries in your rubbish or recycling bin.

This week there was a fire at the plastics recycling plant in Shrewsbury. Initial evidence indicates that it was caused by a lithium-ion battery incorrectly placed in a bin.

❗Batteries should always be disposed of separately.

✔️ They can be left out for recycling - just leave them in a clear plastic bag on/next to your recycling bin/boxes.
✔️ They can also be taken to the battery recycling points found at our recycling centres and in many shops, supermarkets and other locations.

❗ Please remember: batteries put in a bin are a fire hazard, and may cause a fire in the bin lorry, or at the waste depot.

⚠️ Passing your rubbish to the wrong person could cost you more than you think.

If your waste is later found fly-tipped and you didn't take reasonable steps to check who took it, you could be fined £600 and face prosecution.

Always:

✔ Ask for a Waste Carrier Registration Number
✔ Check they're licensed to carry waste
✔ Keep records of the collection

🚧 Greyfriars Footbridge in Shrewsbury will be closed from 9.30am to 4pm on Friday 23 October for essential maintenance work.

The work will involve surface repairs on the approaches to the bridge – at both ends – to help maintain pedestrian safety.

❗ During the work the bridge will be fully closed to pedestrians and cyclists, and there will be restricted access to the immediate work area for members of the public. Alternative walking routes are available via nearby river crossings within Shrewsbury town centre.

People are thanked for their patience and understanding while this important work is carried out.

Tenbury Road in Cleobury Mortimer is to be resurfaced from Monday 2 to Friday 6 November.

🚧 Work will be carried out from 9.30am to 4pm each day, on weekdays only. During these times a full road closure will be in place.

During the closures access to the work areas will be maintained for the following:

✅ Residents living within the closure, when safe to do so.
✅ Any businesses located within the closure, when safe.
✅ Pedestrians, dismounted cyclists and equestrians
✅ Emergency vehicles (blue light calls).

For all other traffic a signed diversion will be place. Depending on their vehicle type, road users may be able to choose an alternative diversion route.

People are asked to ensure vehicles are not parked on the road whilst the work is in progress. This will help ensure that work is completed efficiently and reduce disruption.

Work will be carried out by Kier Infrastructure on behalf of Shropshire Council.
