It is with a heavy heart that we announce today, Sunday, November 24, 2024, will be our final day of operation at The Otter. Despite our unwavering dedication and efforts, we have faced significant challenges that have led to this difficult decision.
The hospitality industry has been under immense pressure, with recent reports indicating that 239 pubs closed in England and Wales during the first quarter of this year alone, averaging 80 closures per month. Factors such as rising energy costs, increased business rates, and the broader economic climate have made it increasingly difficult for establishments like ours to sustain operations.
We deeply apologize for the suddenness of this announcement and any inconvenience it may cause. Serving you has been an absolute pleasure, and we cherish the memories we’ve created together.
While The Otter is closing, we are pleased to inform you that The Marine, located just down the road in Sidmouth, remains open and ready to welcome you. We hope to see you there soon and continue sharing great times together.
