Regarding the recent issue raised by iCars about a complaint the taxi firm received regarding displaying poppies and Lest We Forget window stickers:

I am pleased that two of my colleagues - Cllr Dolley Wooster and Cllr Ashley Shiel - submitted an urgent council motion yesterday morning so that councillors can request the necessary policy amendment so that no future complaints like this one can be raised under the licensing arrangements in Swale.

I am also pleased the Chair of Licensing will be ensuring it is a priority item at the next Licensing Committee.

I’m aware of some more litter bin issues, and I’ve requested that contractors attend urgently to clear these.

They are on Menin Road, Ypres Drive and Hurst Lane.

I’ve also asked that the dog waste bin be refitted at the rec entrance from Grovehurst Avenue. I’m hoping to get this replaced by a larger, black litter bin which can then also be used by people using the bus stop or walking along Grovehurst Avenue.

Many thanks to Pete and Paul for lending a hand with the litter pick today. We covered off Ridham Avenue, the Monarch Drive footpath, Reams Way and Swale Way between Reams Way and Samuel Drive.

Very pleased to see the rebuild of the accessible swim at the lake this morning, completed this week.

However it’s disappointing to see that the contractors are not on top of the bins across the estate. I’ve reported these in for urgent clearance.

I’ve also contacted KCC to see if they can repair the road turning into Edyngham Close when they finally do the repairs to Newman Drive (expected to be done this month).

It was August 2025 when the Kent County Council Cabinet Member for Highways said Grovehurst was “progressing well” - as close to a year to the day has now passed I’ve written to him asking for an update.

There’s been no public update on the project webpage for months. We deserve to know when the cones will all finally be gone, the works will be signed off, and when we can expect to hear about any fines and penalties issued.

Getting to the final bit of delivery of my latest Kemsley Ward update, delivering Miller Close, Yeates Drive and Walsby Drive this morning.

Have received an update from KCC this week saying the marked up potholes along Newman Drive are finally due to be fixed this month, and I’ll also be chasing KCC about this damaged streetlight on Yeates Drive which has been reported several times in recent years - yet it’s still strapped up!

Yesterday I joined my colleague in Milton Regis and reported all these potholes on Laxton Way.

Today KCC has determined “no action required” for nearly all of these. If contractors are going to the effort to fix a couple, why not do the lot?

This is wasteful. I thought KCC were eliminating waste?
