💚 FOSTERING MYTH: You must already have children to become a foster carer

This is not true.

You do not need to have biological or adopted children of your own to foster. Many successful foster carers begin their journey with no previous parenting experience.

What matters is your ability to provide a child with patience, stability, understanding and a safe, caring home. Full training and ongoing support are provided throughout your fostering journey.

You can apply to foster whether you are single, married, divorced, living with a partner or in a same-sex relationship. Your relationship status does not determine whether you can provide a child with a safe, stable and caring home.

🏡 FOSTERING MYTH: You need to own your home to foster

This simply isn’t true.

You can foster whether you own your home, rent privately or live in council housing. What matters is that your home is safe, suitable and has a spare bedroom for a foster child.

Renting does not automatically prevent you from becoming a foster carer. You may simply need permission from your landlord as part of the assessment process.
