Natureland is famous for its work rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned and injured seal pups that get washed ashore on Lincolnshire beaches. Thank you so much to those who joined us for our very first beach clean! 🗑️🌊

At a glance, our beach didn’t look to have too much rubbish, however, we still managed to collect a total of 12kg of litter, ranging from small fragments of plastic and foam to glass bottles, a blanket, some shorts and a jumper! 🩳
It was disappointing to find 5 bags of dog poo that had just been left 💩 , lots of cigarette butts 🚬 and a flying ring as well, which can be so harmful to seals in particular so we are so glad we found it before it could do any damage, but more on that in another post!

As mentioned before we will be hosting a beach clean once a month and should you want to join us you can sign up via the MCS website using the link below!

Mr Marvellous released 25.6.24 🌊

Mr Marvellous (Marv for short) was rescued when he was about a week old from Gibraltar Point. He had an infection in his right eye, was dehydrated, had some puncture wounds and was orphaned. The poor little thing! 🤒🤕
He was brought back to get his wounds cleaned up, start some antibiotics and receive a whole lot of lovin’ (at a very safe distance).
Marv was a very sweet boy who spent quite a while with us as he very slowly gained weight. When he graduated to the rearing pool, he became besties with Albie our Albino seal and after almost a year, Marv was finally released and ready to take on life in the wild, good luck little Marv! 👋🏼

Come and join us for a Beach clean on the 21st July at 1.30pm! 🗑️ 🌊

We’ve seen first hand how litter can affect our marine wildlife so we are doing our part to keep our beaches clean and would love to have you join us! 🦭
We will be doing a beach clean once a month from now on, starting from Tuesday 21st July, so there are plenty of opportunities to help out! We have 28 more spaces on this clean and you must sign up to be able to join, please don’t just turn up! If you do have any queries, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via email at [email protected] or phone 01754764345!

As a Thank you, all that sign up and complete the clean will be offered entry to Natureland for just £5!

Mr Fussy & Mr Muddle released 18.6.24 🌊

Mr Fussy (you may know him as Claude from some of our previous posts) was rescued from the beach behind Butlins. He still had his white coat which meant he was only a few days old, he was dehydrated and had some small wounds. He was brought back to start cleaning him up and to give him a good meal of tasty fish! 🏥🐟Fussy took a long time to learn how to eat independently, absolutely living up to his name! Our keepers had to have A LOT of patience, but once he got the hang of it there was no stopping him!

Mr Muddle had a suspected mouth infection and dehydration, nothing that a good meal and some antibiotics couldn’t fix! 🤒 Around 6 months later for Mr Fussy and only 3 months later for Muddle, they were given a second chance out in the wild!

Swim safe babies! 👋🏼

Mr Muddle was spotted 5 months later in Yorkshire, hauled out looking fat and happy! 🥳(Wait for the picture at the end)

Little Miss Sunshine ☀️ released on a not so sunny day! 28.5.24 🌊

Little Miss Sunshine, rescued from Ingoldmells Beach, had laboured breathing, a swollen right rear flipper and was very dehydrated when she was found 🤕 She was transported back to our hospital so our team could get to work! She was a pretty straightforward rehab, after only 2 months getting up to release weight! 🥳

You lot love a ramp release 😅 so we thought we’d explain why they are sometimes released on here. This is when the tide is all the way in, on this stretch of beach it comes right up to the sea defences so there is no sand to work with. If the sea is calm enough (bearing in mind that although these seals are small they are very strong and more than capable at dealing with choppy waters) we will go ahead on the ramp rather than keeping them unnecessarily. If we waited until later in the day, the beach would be busy with people and dogs which means we would have more risk factors to deal with.
We would never release a seal if we didn’t think it could cope with the conditions!

Spotted dick pupdate! 🦭

Richard is at it again, being a nosey boy! 👀 and has now graduated to the rearing pool! Not too long and he will be released back to the wild 🌊🥳
