In the village of Barley, at the bottom of Pendle Hill you will find this sculpture trail inspired by the Pendle Witches story.

An interesting walk around the woods finding all the sculptures. There are 26 to find plus 10 clues on signs to complete a downloadable trail.

The sculpture trail is around 3 miles in total but this includes the walk up to Aitken Woods. You walk up the road past Black Moss reservoir to get access. I did take the trike and it was fine on the track section but there is a steep bit of hill which was really hard just as you get into the wood - I then abandoned it and collected on the way back as the woods itself isn’t suitable for it. So I would say not pram friendly.

Barley is a lovely village too with a number of pubs, playground (recently refurbed), icecream kiosk/cafe and a super cheap car park!

Beamsley Beacon is a great hill to climb. It’s an easy steady climb up and back down along the same path.

It is about a mile there and back with a little bit of climbing in one section but the rest is just rocky under foot so a good one to start building their confidence on uneven ground.

A does get a bit windy up by the trig but gorgeous views in every which way you look so totally worth all the cajoling it takes to get up there!

Let me know if you need the details.

Another fab visit to Clip 'N Climb Ilkley Ltd this summer holiday with friends.

We did a half hour session which is just the right amount of time with the little ones as they are exhausted after!

Some amazing climbing from them, can’t believe how brave they all were.

Lots of different walls for them to tackle, some at beginner level, some getting trickier. There are teddies for them to hide and climb up to rescue which is always a good incentive.

The staff are always on hand to assist with the clipping on and off of the walls and to offer advice.

Great central location in Ilkley next to the train station.

Have you visited here before?

A lovely walk from Grassington, down to Linton Falls then up the river to Ghaistrills Strid. Easy to find, just follow the river!

3 miles clocked up heading back via Grassington High Street for a perusal around the food market (held once a month). Had to sample some of the delights of course!

This walk is a great one in the summer for a picnic and a paddle upstream of Ghaistrills Strid just before reaching Grass Woods. Also less busy than Linton which is a bonus.

Have you tried out Cowling park and pump track yet? It’s absolutely brilliant!

My eldest (age 8, confident rider) loved the pump track. In an hour his confidence had grown massively on it with watching some older boys ride.

This pump track was definitely a step up from other ones we have been to. My younger (age 3 on a balance bike) attempted a few hills but it proved too much for him and he quickly moved away!

The recreational field is big with plenty of space to run round, play football, picnic benches, a basket ball court and playgrounds.

The tarmac flat basketball court was ideal for the little ones on their balance bikes.

2 playgrounds, 1 the original and 1 relatively new kept them entertained for hours. A good sized climbing frame with slide, seesaw, roundabout, swings, zip line, plus obstacle course style equipment.

No designated parking so you need to park on the main road.

A great find!

Drop any other local parks that we need to try in the comments 🙏🏻

Revisited one of the most adventurous kids walk around this summer and the boys absolutely loved it.

Trollers Gill is a fab 4km walk in the Yorkshire Dales that has it all.

Highlights;
🖤 cave
🤍 climbing
💙 paddle spot
💚 amazing views
🤎 chocolate brownies!!!

There is also the story that haunts the valley… the beast of Barghest!

The kids weren’t sure whether to believe my stories on the way up or not. But it definitely kept them going.

If you want the route details let me know in the comments.

Have you visited The Arium in North Leeds? It’s a garden centre and cafe with a HUGE outside playground.

It’s FREE to play there so massive bonus!

There are sections for older kids as well as toddlers with road markings on the paths so you can take little ride on bikes or scooters.

The areas are covered in sand so great if they like to dig, not so good if they prefer to eat it!

There’s a little pop up cafe outside too so you can sit and enjoy your coffee in ‘peace’ whilst they play.

Fab find 👍🏻

This super short walk from Bolton Abbey village is a great little explorers walk.

Take a picnic down and spend ages playing on the beach, throwing stones or paddling. There’s lots of grass areas for running around and also the Priory ruins to discover.

This one is accessible / pram friendly but let me know if you need the specific details to avoid the main steps.

Seeing as though walking isn’t for this one anymore we have found common ground with going for a bike ride!

Luckily the canal is pretty handy so a good couple of hours out on the bikes got us a lot further than normal and we headed from Stirton to Bradley.

There’s always a stop off at the pump track in Aireville Park on the way home. A way of him burning off even more energy whilst I rest my jelly legs!

Where do kids get the endless energy from?!

Next time we are heading a bit further and seeing how far we can get before getting the train back!
