Congratulations to Adel of Year 10 – inaugural winner of the ‘Goodman Cup’.

Having been found in a second-hand market and donated to the school, the silver cup will now be awarded each year to the fastest pupil in the school. Adel won the annual 100m competition yesterday with a time of 11.7 seconds.

The cup was first awarded to former pupil Eric Goodman in 1911, who won the 100-yard dash with a time of 11.4 seconds. Eric was the school’s outstanding athlete at the time: captain of the first XV, First XI, and so much more. He left school and joined the British Army in 1914. Soon promoted due to distinguished service at the front, he was last sighted, silhouetted against the skyline in his trench coat, urging his men forward at the Battle of Arras in 1917. His body was never recovered but his name liveth for evermore.

To celebrate the final meeting of the Japan Club, Mrs Villalobos made Japanese 'kare-risu' (curry and rice!) at home and brought it in for everyone to enjoy. We have been very impressed by the members' openness to try new things throughout the 27 weeks that the club ran - food was certainly no exception! Our top learners of 'hiragana' were Rowan and Sam, who can now read and write many of the characters. A massive 'arigato gozaimasu' to all for their enthusiasm from Yasuda-sensei and Mrs Villalobos!

We held our annual Speech Day and prize-giving ceremony at school this week and were delighted to welcome back former student Alex McIntyre MP (2004-2011), who shared his experiences and advice to our current generation of pupils.

Alex is pictured here (centre) with Headteacher Michael Evans (left) and Chair of Governors Stuart Clarkson (right)

A huge thanks to all the individuals, organisations and companies who kindly provide sponsorship for our prizes - including Skipton Mechanics' Institute for their kind donation.

Congratulations to our national award winning student newspaper The Reason on another outstanding day at the Shine School Media Awards where our students scooped 5 winner/highly commended awards! 🏆🏆

This takes our trophy cabinet to 13 wins and 25 highly commended awards in 8 years 🎉🔥

Special shout out to student Volodymyr who picked up the school's first ever Harrison Cup, an award given to a truly inspirational student. Volodymyr led our Science section superbly and the judges were particularly impressed with the way he communicated incredibly complex scientific concepts to a wide ranging audience🔬 🧬

Congratulations to our Senior Editors Jon-Jon, Teilo, Daniel and Jayden for their marvellous efforts this year! 🙌
