Happy National Dog Day!

Celebrating owner Georgie Tilley and Chase, her wonderful 5-year-old Labrador assistant dog at RAF Cranwell!

Chase was rehomed just over a year ago after spending several years as a gun dog, mostly confined to a crate. With support from ex-handler friends and a local trainer, he’s made fantastic progress overcoming anxiety around other dogs.

Chase is the sweetest boy and a much-loved member of the office. He enjoys visitors, tummy rubs and the occasional treat. At work, he helps Georgie by picking up dropped items, fetching her phone if needed and is trained to alert if she requires assistance—always ready to help.

He brightens the day for many at RAF Cranwell, offering comfort to those who need it and bringing smiles to everyone he meets. Chase isn’t just a dog—he’s a lifesaver, a helper and a friend. Here’s to all the amazing dogs who make our lives better every day!

❗️Public Notice

RAF Waddington and RAF Cranwell will be supporting Exercise COBRA WARRIOR over the coming weeks, one of the RAF's largest multinational training exercises.

During this period, residents may notice increased aircraft activity and higher noise levels across the local area.

This vital training helps ensure UK and allied personnel are prepared to operate together effectively on future operations

We recognise the impact this may have and greatly appreciate the continued patience, understanding and support of our neighbouring communities.

In July, 28 students from the 15 University Air Squadrons (UAS) gathered at RAF Cranwell for an engaging and demanding Acting Pilot Officer Workshop. Prior to attending, the students completed preparatory learning to ready themselves for an intensive residential leadership training programme. During their time at RAF Cranwell, they participated in a combination of theoretical and practical sessions designed to challenge and enhance their leadership abilities within a dynamic and supportive setting. Each participant was formally presented with their Acting Pilot Officer rank by Comdt RAFC, Air Cdre Lorriman-Hughes.

Congratulations to everyone involved – a fantastic milestone in their leadership development within the RAF Family.

30 years ago today, a 21 year old "Officer Cadet" from the Universities of Wales Air Squadron joined the Royal Air Force and started his career on 163 Initial Officer Training at RAF Cranwell. In a career that has gone full circle, Flt Lt Rich Tomala now finds himself permanently based at RAF Cranwell as the Display Pilot for the RAF Tutor Display Team.

Where did that time go?

Year 12 students recently took part in our second week-long Look at Life Work Experience Programme.

Throughout the week, students gained a real insight into RAF life, experiencing training, career pathways, leadership and team-building activities and fitness sessions.

A particular highlight this year was a visit to RAF Coningsby, where students toured the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight(BBMF) and met the engineers responsible for keeping these iconic historic aircraft airworthy.

By the end of the week, students told us they had discovered career opportunities they had never previously considered, experienced Service life and made new friendships that could one day continue into RAF service.

We wish all participants a well-deserved summer break and every success in their final year of studies.
