We have four main libraries: The Curve, Langley, Cippenham and Britwell, plus three libraries in shared buildings in Chalvey Community Centre, Wexham Road Children's Centre and Vicarage Way Children's Centre in Colnbrook. For information about library services visit

Library of Sanctuary honour for Slough

Slough Libraries have been given the Library of Sanctuary accreditation for being a safe, warm and inclusive service for all.

To earn the Library of Sanctuary status, Slough Libraries had to meet three key criteria – learn more about the needs and experiences of people seeking sanctuary, embed concepts of welcome, celebration and inclusion into library policies and procedures and share the positive contribution refugees make to our society and the benefits of a welcoming culture to everyone.

The library service team, working in partnership with the council’s Refugee and Asylum Seeker Lead, Slough Refugee Support and Museums Partnership Reading, applied for the award in March and gave a presentation to the judging panel on 13 May.

They outlined all the work that happens in our libraires to encourage feelings of community and belonging for people seeking sanctuary, or new arrivals into the community.

Come along to this Everyone Welcome event on Wednesday at The Curve.

You can meet local groups and organisations, join the library for free, find out about local volunteering opportunities, get help in job searching, learn to use computers, get free basic health checks, understand and speak English more confidently, find out about local events, and more.

The Dolphin Stadium (originally known as the Dolphin Ground) was a historic multi-sports venue located on Uxbridge Road in Slough, Berkshire. Opened in 1928, it operated primarily as a greyhound racing track and the long-time home of Slough Town Football Club, before being permanently closed and demolished in 1987.

Central Hall Slough.
After the union of the Wesleyans and the Primitive Methodists, the Central Hall was built at a cost of £31,000. The foundation stone was laid on 3rd February 1932; the Hall was opened by HRH the Duchess of York (later H.M. Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother) on 10th November 1932. The imposing building turned the corner of the High Street and The Grove, with four brick pilasters with stone cappings and surmounted by a stone cornice and dome. The dome was a landmark until the 1960s when the building was demolished for offices and shops. Beyond the Hall on the left can be seen a garage with four petrol pumps. The Kingfisher in Slough was a legendary underground pub located beneath the Queensmere Shopping Centre on the High Street. It originally traded as The Peacock before changing its name to The Kingfisher.
Closed since 1994.
The entrance was historically located near the area outside the Empire Cinema.
While the pub is no longer open to the public, the underground space reportedly still exists.
