There’s no time like the present to explore the past - Buckinghamshire History Festival 2026!

Buckinghamshire History Festival returns in November, giving residents another opportunity to explore and celebrate the county’s history and cultural heritage.

The festival, organised by Buckinghamshire Archives, showcases a huge range of events, activities and exhibitions throughout November. There’s something for everyone, ranging from tours of the Buckinghamshire Archives, and historic walks through Amersham, Marlow and High Wycombe, to online talks and traditional corn milling demonstrations – and there’s even some creative performances through means of dance and theatre productions!

Peter Brazier, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture & Leisure, said:

“History fans old and new will welcome back this celebrated annual event which brings back Buckinghamshire's past to life through the stories of the county's people and places. Our heritage helps make Buckinghamshire such a great place to live, and supporting the cultural experiences that bring communities together is a key priority for the council
This month-long festival provides communities with lots of chances to be inspired and entertained by Buckinghamshire’s history through a series of online and in-person events.

"With the Buckinghamshire Archives temporarily closed to public access in preparation for its relocation to a new purpose-built space in High Wycombe, I'm delighted that we're still able to offer this opportunity for residents to immerse themselves in local history.

Burnham Park Mosaic

We’re pleased to say that The Burnham Park Mosaic has now been restored. Please see the before and after pictures to see the difference Our contractor has used materials that are in keeping with the original mosaic to help preserve it's character and bringing it back to life. We’re delighted that this important feature has been restored so that we can continue to enjoy it for years to come.

👓👂 BucksVision held a Sight Loss & Hearing Loss Equipment and Information Day at Burnham Park Hall.

Many people had the opportunity to try out equipment, discover new technology, and access advice and information to help make everyday life easier for people living with sight or hearing loss.

Burnham Parish Council has previously awarded Bucks Vision grants towards the room hire costs for the annual Equipment and Information Day, as well as a cash grant towards the design project.

Our final litter pick of the year! 🗑️

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped make a difference in our community.💚

A special thank you to Cllr Terry Gamble for leading the litter pick, and to everyone who gave up their time to get involved!

We’ll be organising more litter-picking days next year, and we’d love to see even more of you joining us.

George Pitcher Memorial Ground - Toilet Refurbishment

We’re pleased to let you know that the toilets at George Pitcher Memorial Ground will be refurbished. We understand this may cause some inconvenience to several groups while the work is taking place. However, the toilets have been in need of an update for some time, and we’re looking forward to giving them a fresh new look. We hope you’ll be pleased with the improvements!

The work is planned to start the week commencing 28th September 2026.

Burnham Parish Council was delighted today to award the title of Honorary Freeman of the Parish to Mr Dick Moon. The award is the highest honour that the Parish can bestow, awarded "to honour persons of distinction who have, in the opinion of the council, rendered eminent service to the community'"

This year, at the end of July, the council held a special meeting where it was resolved to award Dick the Freedom of the Parish; and today the award was officially presented in front of Dick's family and friends, and members of the council and community, including the Royal British Legion.

Speaking for the Council and the Community, Chair of the Council Cllr Marie Hammon paid tribute to Dick's service in both war and peace. She noted that Dick had served on Arctic Convoys during the Second World War - what Winston Churchill called ‘the worst journey in the world’. In peace he turned his father's dairy and post-office business into a newsagent, which he ran under 1979 when his last customer was Mrs Wogan, who "popped in to buy a packet of f**s". Dick was also a prolific inventor, inventing the ‘Strip System’ method of sorting newspapers, and the dayglo newspaper bag, which made life safer for countless young people across the country and eventually sold 100,000 bags a year.

Cllr Hammon concluded by describing Dick as " truly wonderful man, a thoughtful, creative and compassionate man".

In replying Dick stated that being awarded such an honour by his own community meant more to him than any other honour could.
Dick was presented with the Freeman's official scroll and badge, and later unveiled the Freemen's board with his name added. His partner Joan was presented with a bunch of flowers by Cllr Hammon.

After singing the national anthem the assembled guests enjoyed excellent refreshments provided by Woodstock's Tea and Coffee House.
