Red Extreme Heat Warning: Firefighters urge residents to help prevent avoidable emergencies
Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service is urging residents to take extra care during this week's Red Extreme Heat Warning, with temperatures forecast to reach up to 40°C and an increased risk of water-related incidents and wildfires.
The warning, issued by the Met Office and UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), is in place from 9am Wednesday until 9pm Thursday. During this period, residents are being encouraged to avoid unnecessary risks around open water, barbecues and dry open spaces and to take simple steps to stay safe in the heat.

Residents are being asked to follow this advice:
Water safety
· Avoid entering open water to cool down.
· Never enter the water to attempt a rescue.
· If you see someone in difficulty, call 999 immediately.
· If it is safe to do so, throw something that floats and encourage them to Float to Live.
Fire safety
· Avoid using disposable barbecues in parks, fields and open spaces.
· Keep barbecues away from dry grass, fences, sheds and trees.
· Dispose of ci******es responsibly.
· Do not leave glass bottles or litter in direct sunlight.
· Avoid bonfires during this period of extreme heat.
Heat health
· Stay hydrated throughout the day.
· Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day where possible.
· Check in on family, friends and neighbours who may be more vulnerable.

Burnham Litter Picking Days

After a very successful litter pick on 23rd May 2026, we have two more litter-picking days planned this year.
Please join us to help keep Burnham clean, tidy, and looking its best. Every helping hand makes a difference and will support our entry in the Best Kept Village competition.

New Defibrillator at The Five Bells Pub

We would like to thank Phoenix Rugby Club for donating the new defibrillator at the Old Five Bells, along with the bleed kit donated by The Burnham Foundation. We would also like to thank all the local businesses and organisations that kindly agreed to host these potentially life-saving pieces of equipment within the community.

Due to the expected increase in temperature over the weekend, we are activating our Severe Weather Emergency Protocols (SWEP) today. As the weather is exceptionally hot, if you see anyone sleeping out on the streets of Buckinghamshire, please contact StreetLink via https://www.streetlink.org.uk or phone 0300 500 0914, who will notify our dedicated Outreach workers.

If you see anyone you believe to be under the age of 18 and/or are concerned about the health or welfare of anyone that you see sleeping rough, please call 999.

Cold water and shade will be available in Buckinghamshire Council offices at Walton Street, Aylesbury, and Queen Victoria Road, High Wycombe.

Today we were delighted to join some of the team from Claires Comfy Canines, local businesses and dog owners to officially launch the new dog waste bins they have sponsored in Burnham.

Comfy Canines has been in Burnham for 16 years and is celebrating this year with plans to encourage more dog owners into the village. The dog bins are the start of the new initiaitive along with window stickers for those who welcome dogs. Claire said "It would be great to see more dogs and owners in the high street to bring some extra customers to the lovely businesses here. We know, that by becoming dog friendly, businesses can increase between 20-50%"

Lent Green Lane Pond Reopening

Last Saturday the pond echoed to the laughter of children, the chatter of crowds, and the quacks of pleasure of happy ducks as Burnham Parish Council was delighted to officially reopen the pond at Lent Green Lane in Burnham.

Burnham Parish Council now has an agreement to manage the pond for the next 21 years. Since taking it on from 1st April there has been a busy programme of tree works and other tidying-up to restore the pond to its former glory. The Council has also installed two new benches, additional litter bins, new safety signage and equipment, and a pond information board. The board, kindly funded by South East Bucks Community Board, gives visitors information about the history and wildlife at the pond.
All of this work has been overseen by a group of councillors, council staff, community organisations, and the Friends of the Pond.

Last Saturday the pond was officially reopened, and the information board unveiled, by the Countess Howe, Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire. Lady Howe spoke about the importance of community projects like the one to restore the pond, as well as the importance of Burnham within Buckinghamshire.

In addition to Lady Howe there were speeches from Cllr Marie Hammon, Chair of Burnham Parish Council, Tia Latham on behalf of resident and ‘Friends of the Pond’, and the Reverend Josh Cleaver, Vicar of St Peter’s Church. Tia spoke about the importance of the pond to local residents and the role of the Friends of the Pond in looking after it. Reverend Josh blessed the pond, which in past times was owned by the Vicar.

Marie said “This is our land, our pond and our home. This moment marks a wonderful commemoration of the legacy of our village pond”. She added “There may be some new accommodation for our most important pond residents – the ducks – soon!”.
There were also kids activities, on a duck theme, kindly organised by the Burnham Health Promotion Trust, and a great time was had by all.

We will be gathering from 11am at the Pond, and the official part of the event will be 11:30-11:50, including the unveiling of the new information board.

The weather is looking good, and the Clerk is going to do a 'please don't rain' dance.

The 2nd part of the Trim Trail in Burnham Park is underway and should be ready for use in 48hrs (fingers crossed).
Adam, the Burnham Parish Council clerk, decided to have a go on the half installed before half term. We were impressed he used the highest bar!!!
BHPT are delighted to have collaborated with the council on this project and very pleased with the way it has turned out.
Soon, there will be a bench in front of the small tree dividing the trail in two, dedicated to Dr Bev Daily, who was one of the original BHPT trustees and of course, one of the villages most respected GP's.
We hope the trail will be well used by visitors to the park, both young & old!
