At 1.46pm today, the time the first aircraft struck the North Tower twenty-five years ago, our firefighters and staff paused to remember those who lost their lives, joining fire and rescue services across the country in a one minute silence.

Today, we remember the 343 firefighters, other emergency responders, and members of the public who sadly lost their lives on 11 September 2001.

Firefighters ran towards danger when others were trying to escape it, making the ultimate sacrifice in the service of others.

More than two decades on, we remember their courage and the families, colleagues and communities left behind, who are affected still today.

We will never forget. 🖤

This includes garden waste:

Over the last two days, we have attended a number of fires in gardens. One incident involved a fence fire caused by hot ashes from a bonfire the previous day.

A grass fire can quickly become a fence fire, which can become a shed fire, and then a house fire.

Think before your burn: “Do I really need to burn my waste right now?”

To whoever dropped off the lovely gifts, Thank you, they are very much appreciated 🙏🏻

Today is Firefighters’ Memorial Day and St Florian’s Day – the patron saint of firefighters.

Across West Midlands Fire Service, we’re remembering those who have been injured or lost their lives in the line of duty.

At 12noon, our fire stations will observe a one-minute silence. Flags will be lowered as a mark of respect.
