Julian Knight calls for urgent action over ‘stranger danger’
Julian Knight, Conservative parliamentary candidate for Solihull, has called on Police, schools and local authorities to outline clearly to the public how they intend to step up the protection of our children in the face of an abduction threat.
In recent weeks there have been several disturbing incidents around Solihull schools which could be seen as attempts at child abduction.
In response, several schools in the borough have written to parents outlining the threat and suggesting appropriate action. But Julian says he would like to see the public told more:
“No one wants to start a panic and I am sure that the police and authorities are taking substantial action but, judging from much correspondence I have received on this issue, the general public feel left in the dark.”
“What I would like to see is Police, schools and local authorities make it clear to everyone the extra measures that are being taken to protect our children. Are there extra police patrols taking place near our schools? Will we see an immediate information education campaign in schools alerting pupils as to what to do if approached by a stranger?”
“What’s more, what should parents and the public look out for when spotting potential child abduction situations?”
“Let’s all work together now – schools, police, local authorities and parents - to head off this vile threat. “
A few months ago Julian launched a campaign aimed at protecting children online, offering helpful hints and tips to parents and schools on combating inappropriate approaches online to children from predators.
