Last week as the first sections of the glass roof were being removed from the Pannier Market, we carried out environmental surveys focused on swifts and bats.

A toolbox talk was delivered on site with Mercury Construction SW Ltd to make sure everyone understood the importance of protecting these species and the measures in place.

A big thank you to Jerry from the Devon Swift Project and Rhianna from Arbtech for their expertise.

We’re also pleased to share that the South Molton Swift Group are installing Swift Boxes today and continue monitoring swift activity throughout the project to ensure that the Swift population is protected.

Thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for their support in making this work possible.

A message from our local Policing team:

Anti-social behaviour, South Molton

The local policing team have received reports of anti-social behaviour taking place in the area of the Pannier Market, South Molton.

We have received numerous reports concerning the scaffolding that has been erected around the Pannier Market in order to restore the roof. This is some important work and it is anticipated that this scaffolding will be up for some time however we have received some concerning reports of individuals climbing on the scaffolding and up onto the roof.

We are fortunate that there is CCTV in the locality and we will be reviewing this footage to try and identify any individuals and we will take proportionate action against anyone we can identify.

This is incredibly dangerous, there is a reason the roof is being restored and therefore I would urge any parents to have a conversation with their children to remind them of the dangers and the risks posed and the implications of falling from height.

As a team we will be working with the Town Council and the company responsible for the Scaffolding to increase awareness of the risks posed so that works can continue safely and without delay.

The Neighbourhood Team encourage any persons who experience anti-social behaviour, and anyone with information, to report this via our website or phone 101 in a non-emergency.

Please phone 999 in an emergency.

We aim to increase patrols where possible.
