At 1629 yesterday, Saturday 29th August, Queensferry Lifeboat volunteers were tasked by HM Coastguard to reports of a female on Cramond IsIand with an ankle injury.

The lifeboat arrived on scene and two crew members were put ashore to locate the casualty. With a music event happening on the Island at the same time and crowds of people attending, this proved challenging. However, after some communication with the lifeboat surveying the scene from the water, the casualty was located on a rocky slope on the north of the island.

The casualty was in a lot of pain and after a first aid assessment it was found that she was suffering from a suspected lower leg fracture. The crew on scene administered pain relief and reassured the casualty. Whilst first aid was ongoing, the lifeboat transported three members of CRT to the island to assist with extraction due to the difficult location.

As plans were being made for evacuation, reports of a further casualty came through who was on another part of Cramond Island and was unconscious but breathing. The lifeboat crew made sure the first casualty was stable and comfortable, before heading to deal with the further casualty. Again, due to the number of people on the island locating the second casualty proved tricky. However, once located, our volunteers undertook a casualty assessment. Thankfully, the casualty came around after administering some oxygen and was then able to talk to crew. It was determined that the best course of action was to evacuate her to Cramond Village to an awaiting ambulance.

Whilst at Cramond Village, the lifeboat picked up SORT paramedics and transported them to Cramond Island. SORT along with two lifeboat crew were placed ashore to deal with the first casualty. Due to the difficult location, it was assessed that the best evacuation option was by helicopter. Whilst waiting for the helicopter, SORT and lifeboat crew dealt with a further casualty with a head injury but it was determined they did not require any further medical assistance.

Coastguard helicopter Rescue 199 evacuated the casualty with the leg injury to an awaiting ambulance at Cramond Village. As members were leaving the scene, a further casualty presented themselves and had reportedly fallen from height and was complaining of lower back pain. This casualty was assessed by SORT and was advised to attend A&E when possible.

Once all casualties had been assessed and treated where necessary, the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station at approximately 2000.

This was a great example of a multi-agency incident, where lifeboat crew, coastguard, SORT, ambulance, police and coastguard helicopter teams worked together for a successful resolution to the incident.

It is with great sadness that Queensferry Lifeboat Station volunteers mourn the passing of Morag Goulden, one of our long serving fundraising volunteers.

Morag joined the fundraising team around 17 years ago and has contributed greatly over her years of volunteering. Morag will be remembered for her love of interacting and meeting with people at our fundraising events such as Open Day, Loony Dook and our various store collections. She was also involved with a number of other local and national charities and organisations who have benefitted from her determination and enthusiasm in raising funds over the course of her volunteering roles.

In Morags memory and as a mark of respect, we have lowered our station flag to half mast today. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this very sad time.

🚨 New Helm Alert 🚨

Congratulations to Petra who passed her command assessment on Monday afternoon and is now a helm! 👏👏

Petra has undertaken rigourus training over the past few months in order to be able to manage and handle the lifeboat under high pressure situations at sea. Along with training at station, this included undertaking week long command and boat handling courses at the RNLI College in Poole. And culminated in a practical assessment where skills in managing emergency procedures, searches and various rescue scenarios were tested.

It wasn't long before Petra commanded her first shout, just 24hrs later, when the pager sounded this afternoon at 1805 and the situation was resolved with a successful outcome!

It was a festive atmosphere in Queensferry this morning as Queensferry RNLI volunteers represented the station in the annual Ferry Fair Parade alongside many other community groups! 💙🧡

📟 4 shouts in 5 days for Queensferry RNLI Volunteers 🚨

📟 On Sunday 2nd August at 11.38pm volunteers were tasked to assist in the search for a person in the North Queensferry area. The lifeboat was stood down at 1.37am as the person was traced safely.

📟 On Monday 3rd August at 16.48pm Queensferry lifeboat was tasked to an incident in the Newhaven area, which was resolved shortly after the lifeboat arrived on scene.

📟 On Wednesday 5th August at 5.55pm volunteers were tasked to 3 persons cut off by the tide on Cramond Island, with the safe crossing time to the mainland being during the hours of darkness. As the lifeboat arrived on scene and volunteers began assessing the conditions for extracting the casualties, HM Coastguard retasked the lifeboat to concerns for a kitesurfer struggling in the conditions at Portobello Beach. The crew immediately made way to the scene in challenging conditions. Whilst en route, an update came through that the kitesurfer had managed to swim to shore safely. However, the lifeboat continued to scene in order to recover their equipment and prevent a further callout. Once the equipment was recovered and returned to its owner, the lifeboat returned to the initial tasking, and all persons cut off by the tide were taken to Cramond Village. Volunteers returned to station at 9.20pm.

📟 On Thursday 6th August at 07.14am volunteers were tasked to an incident in the local area.

🛟 Always try to kite surf with another person
🛟 Always carry a means of calling for help
🛟 Always wear a personal flotation device
🛟 Tell someone else where you're going and when you'll be back
🛟 If you see someone in trouble, or you yourself are in danger, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

It is with great sadness that Queensferry Lifeboat Station volunteers mourn the loss of valued crew member and friend, Andy Hubbard, who sadly passed away on 22nd May 2026.

Andy joined the crew at Queensferry Lifeboat Station at the end of 2022. No stranger to lifeboats, as a previous crew member at Helensburgh RNLI, he quickly became a highly valued, dedicated and dependable member of the Queensferry crew. Attending about 100 incidents since joining us, Andy assisted many casualties and also saved lives through his dedication during his volunteer role as crew.

Many at the station share fond memories attending countless shouts, and training sessions with Andy over the years, whatever the weather, night or day. Andy will be fondly remembered as a kind, calming and encouraging presence on the boat and around the station, with a quiet humour that always put the crew at ease, no matter the situation.

He will be warmly remembered and dearly missed. Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with Andy’s family and friends.

Today, as station volunteers attend Andy's memorial, our station flag has been lowered to half mast.
