Raising the Profile of the Care Workforce Conference

Whether you're receiving care, providing it, employing a care workforce, or representing a professional body in the sector. Your perspective belongs in this conversation.

Training in Care is proud to be co-producing this international conference with the University of Sunderland's School of Nursing, bringing together the people who shape the future of care and health.

This is for you if you:
๐Ÿ”น Receive or have received care, and want your experience to inform how services and careers are shaped
๐Ÿ”น Provide care, and want a stronger voice in how the profession is recognised and developed
๐Ÿ”น Employ a care workforce, and want practical approaches to recruitment, retention and progression
๐Ÿ”น Represent a professional or regulatory body, and want to help strengthen career pathways across the sector

Across the day, you'll:
๐Ÿ”น Hear directly from employers, practitioners, educators and people with lived experience about what supports successful careers and high-quality care
๐Ÿ”น Explore the real opportunities, barriers and changing demands facing the care and health workforce today
๐Ÿ”น See first-hand how the sector's profile and value can be strengthened - locally, nationally and internationally

You'll also get a tour of the University of Sunderland's state-of-the-art healthcare teaching facilities, where the next generation of the care and health workforce is being trained.

This event is free, lunch is included, and places are limited, so if this is a conversation you want to be part of, we'd encourage booking early.

๐Ÿ“… Register here: https://www.sunderland.ac.uk/events/care-workforce-conference

At this conference, we'll explore the opportunities and challenges of career pathways across Care and Health.

What a great session with West Park Community Group last week! ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

Our tutor delivered our Level 2 Food Safety course to a lovely, welcoming group, and there were some really good discussions along the way. By all accounts, it was a brilliant session to be part of.

It's exactly this kind of community connection we love being part of, bringing practical, useful qualifications straight to the people who can benefit from them, in a setting that feels comfortable and familiar.

Thank you to everyone at West Park Community Group for having us, and for such great engagement throughout. We had a great time and hope you did too, and we're already looking forward to our next course with you!

Interested in bringing a course to your own group or community setting? Get in touch, we'd love to chat.

Meet Akunna, proof that progression is always possible. ๐ŸŽ‰

Akunna has worked in care for many years, building up from a Certificate course, to a Level 2 Diploma, and now a Level 3 Diploma in Care.

"I have very fond memories of this Level 3 Diploma in Care, especially the face-to-face classes every week and the discussions about the different care-related news each student had heard or read about that week. It was an eye-opener."

"This qualification has helped me tremendously in positioning myself properly within the care sector in the UK, including getting Senior Carer roles."

"I had the best tutors and support during my course, and I'd encourage all prospective learners in care to go for it with an open mind and give it their all."

Akunna's not stopping there either, with plans to progress further into leadership roles in care.

Congratulations, Akunna! Thank you for your hard work and dedication. ๐Ÿ‘

Thinking about a career working with children? Meet Erin. ๐ŸŽ‰

While working full time with homeless support and volunteering at a primary school, Erin completed her qualification in the Children and Young People's Workforce.

"Great support from tutors and staff. I enjoyed volunteering to gain more experience working with children."

"I am going to Sunderland University to study children's education with qualified teacher status."

"A great experience, with lots of support and help with learning."

Erin's already looking ahead, with her sights set on becoming a qualified teacher.

Congratulations, Erin! We can't wait to see where you go next. ๐Ÿ‘

Thinking about a course but not sure where to start? Here are some of the questions we get asked most ๐Ÿ‘‡

"Do I need any qualifications to apply?"
Not necessarily. Wherever you're starting from, we'll help plan a pathway that fits your goals, your pace, and your confidence, so there's a way in for everyone.

"Is it actually free?"
Many of our courses are fully funded, depending on your circumstances. Funding eligibility is checked before enrolment, so it's always worth asking rather than assuming you won't qualify.

"How does the course actually work?"
We offer flexibility to suit you, independent online learning, face-to-face sessions, or hybrid learning where you can dial in if you can't attend in person. What's available depends on the course, but we'll work with you to find a way that fits.

"What if I'm not confident using computers or online learning?"
We offer support with the learning platform too, whether that's during your session or when you're working from home.

"Can I get extra help if I'm struggling?"
Yes, you can arrange a 1-to-1 with tutor support whenever you need it.

"What kind of courses do you offer?"
We cover both adult care and childcare, from entry-level qualifications through to progression routes for people already working in the sector.

Got a question we haven't covered? Drop it in the comments, we're happy to help.

Can you believe it's August already? โณ September will be here before we know it, and for a lot of people, that means one thing: fresh starts.

This is where it all happens, and we're ready to help you get there. Whatever "new" looks like for you, autumn is a great time to make it happen.

We offer a range of courses across both childcare and adult care, designed to fit around your life, whether you're starting from scratch, changing career, or progressing in a role you're already in.

Ever wondered what a week on one of our courses actually looks like? Here's a peek behind the scenes ๐Ÿ‘€

Whether you're training in adult care or childcare, our courses run one day a week over a number of weeks, depending on the course you choose, so it fits around work, family, or whatever else life throws at you.

Mornings: Interactive teaching, safeguarding, duty of care, and understanding the people you'll be supporting or working with. It's less "textbook," more real conversations about real situations, with role plays, group discussions, and case studies along the way.

Afternoons: Dedicated support time, a chance to work through anything from the morning, ask questions, and get help before you leave for the week.

Between sessions: You'll complete independent work from home through our learning platform. If you need a hand getting to grips with it, we offer support with using the platform too, whether that's during your session or from home.

Extra support: Need something explained a different way, or want to go over something one-to-one? You can arrange a session with our tutor support whenever you need it.

By the end: You'll walk away with a recognised qualification and, more often than not, a lot more confidence than you started with.

It's not about sitting in silence taking notes, it's about being ready for the job, whichever sector you're heading into.

Curious what a course would actually involve for you? Send us a message, we're happy to talk it through.

Thinking about a career in care but not sure where to start? Here are 5 things worth knowing ๐Ÿ‘‡

1๏ธโƒฃ You don't need experience to start. Our pathways are designed to help you access a Level 2 qualification, even if you're starting from scratch.

2๏ธโƒฃ Funding is often available. A lot of our courses are fully funded depending on your circumstances, so cost doesn't have to be the barrier you think it is.

3๏ธโƒฃ It's a genuine career, not just a job. From Level 2 right through to management routes, there's a clear path to progress, whether that's specialising, moving into leadership, or branching into nursing or early years.

4๏ธโƒฃ The people skills you already have count. Patience, communication, and a willingness to help others go a long way, the technical knowledge is what we're here for.

5๏ธโƒฃ You can study around your life. Many of our learners are working, parenting, or juggling other commitments while they train.

If you've ever thought "maybe I could do that," this is your sign. ๐Ÿ’™
